When I bring mine to the redline, I don't think I hear anything else but the engine and concentrating on the road.... :)

yes my 2013 458 also has that chirp sound during upshift on hard acceleration. Haven't brought it to the dealer yet, my thinking is it's normal?

Friend of mine had a 2010 his car used to make this noise under hard acceleration, to say this car was driven hard is an understatement in 25k kms he went through 3 sets of front front pads, one set of front disks, 2 sets of rear brake pads and 4 sets of tyres if I recall correctly.

His car made this sound from new and apparently its normal according to the dealer.

My 15 Speciale has this chirp/squeak when shifting at 5k rpm and greater.... My 3 past Italia and 1 speeder never had this... Anyone ever conclude with service if this is normal and harmless or something needs to be adjusted and or replaced? Thx

My 2010 Italia had it, my Speciale has it as well. It's only in Race mode or higher. My mechanic told me it's totally normal and comes from the actuators inside the gearbox...

I've heard it a couple times on my car that's doing 1300 miles. But it has seemed to have gone away. I would describe it as a squeak as well.

Didn't have it at first, then developed. Traced root cause to a slipping accessory belt. Replaced the belt, noise is gone. Tech feels it will happen again, as its a design issue with the belt.

I have only heard the squeak in Sport mode when driven hard and shifting at high rpms.
Not so in Race mode because the shifts are so hard and fast.

I haven't experienced this squeak yet after 10 months and 2100 miles of semi-daily driving 80% in Race and 20% Sport when listening to podcasts.

Its the engine belt -- If you replace it the noise may go away for a little while but will return over time. This is one reason Ferrari maintenance says to replace it every 2 years.

Same here - from the responses here it appears to be normal, confirmed to me by a few other 458 owners here in London. Only hear it when redlining and upshifting.

I had the same issue on my Speciale which was driving me slightly mad. After three different Ferrari main dealer attempts/inspections they were not able to get to the bottom of it. The factory insisted that this was part of the character of the car and could not come up with a rational explanation as to why some cars squeak and others do not. We tried changing the auxiliary belt, tensioners, inspected the engine mounts, went over the exhaust in case something was loose, checked the gearbox oil levels etc, all to no avail.

A friend of mine suggested I reach out to a to Ferrari specialist that also has a racing team that had come highly recommended. After being on a call with the chap for less than a minute he knew what this issue was and had a solution. It turns out the issue was with the Ferrari OEM auxiliary belt! Its smooth on one side so is prone to slippage. How Ferrari claim to not know this is beyond me!

Long story short this garage suggested switching the OEM belt out for a Gates Belt which has grippers on both sides. I had it supplied and fitted for approx 250 pounds and that fixed the issue. Happy days : )

    I hope this helps.
