Trying to finish up this AC conversion and need a shorter belt for the smaller compressor. On other threads they mention using the Gates 11m875 which would be great if anyone had the thing in stock. Anyone know of a source for that belt? I have one on special order but it's not getting here until April. So if anyone knows of a supplier or an alternative belt that is 11mm x 875 mm I'd appreciate it.
The tricky bit is the V-angle of the belt itself. Most automotive V-belts have a very small V-angle like 6~10 deg which "wedges" them into the V of the pulley groove and aids in preventing them from slipping, but eats up more hp as the belt has to be "pulled out" of the pulley groove as it exits. The Gates Industrial Polyflex belts have a very (unusually) large V-angle of 60 deg which minimizes hp losses (and why Ferrari select them for 308) and best for high speed application. You won't be able to read this: Image Unavailable, Please Login but go to page 30 in this catalog: https://www.gates.com/content/dam/gates/home/knowledge-center/resource-library/catalogs/power-transmission-catalog.pdf Please do let us know if you find any other manufacturer cross-reference for these oddball V-belts.
I ordered one from Biedlers, but they are out of stock... apparently EVERYONE is out of stock on this friggin belt.
I used a Gates 7340 XL as recommended by classic air. Its not a "skinny" belt but works fine. Got it on Amazon for $13 next day. Only potential problem is I have idler pully at full adjustment so if it stretches' it may slip. Had in on for 6 months and lots of hard driving with AC on with no problem. Barry
These work ok.... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005963686346.html?pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%21US%20%2440.16%21US%20%2418.87%21%21%21288.12%21135.42%21%40211b801617109199450154755efa4b%2112000035073685633%21sh%21UK%210%21&spm=a2g0o.store_pc_allItems_or_groupList.new_all_items_2007603277160.1005005963686346
I've also been using the Gates 7340 for a while now, and it's been great. I'm sure you'll be pleased with your choice too.
For mine, the belt wouldn't fit into the groove on the pulley :/ So I'm back to waiting for the other belt... supposed to be here April 2nd... sigh
The wide angle polyurethane belts (60 deg) are designed for industrial drive applications - high load, high speed, limited space. There are more manufacturers which produce these 7Mxxx belts, e.g. Bando (Banflex).
The Gates Poly belts are not automotive...a deep search here may find my vendor. It's an A/C drive belt for electric fan motors. HTH
The belt I took off was a Gates poly and I'm guessing had been on there for a VERY long time. The only "Ferrari" belt is nearly 200 bucks so if the belt snaps I'll just put another on at 35 bucks a piece.
I don't understand this thread at all. These belts are in stock at nearly every Ferrari parts seller - and have been since post #1. Seems like a lot of work to potentially save a (in the scheme of things) not much money. When I'm working on my own cars (an old Alfa, a Cooper, or even my dull-as-dirt Subaru) I just buy the original part and get the job done. For me, I just don't have the patience or free time in my life to hunt around anymore. I frankly don't care what the part costs if it's the right piece. I only need to get my hands dirty once. Again, just my personal worldview.
Well the belt is for a modified AC system that isn't the original. So that's the first reason. The second is... yeah over 100 bucks for a belt is hard to swallow.
11m 875 is a standard A/C belt for Euro spec 328's. As mentioned before, you can buy exactly the same belt as a Ferrari dealer will sell you for 10% of the price, from Ali express... Just type in Gates 11m875 and look for the Funan official store. $22, delivered!
