When removing a tank, in general, do you remove the lines attached to the bottom of the tank, leaving the gasket seal(s) intact, or unbolt the hole cover(s) and replace the gasket(s)? I've gor clear access to the lines on my Mondial t, but they are 17 years old as are the gaskets.
    Any experienced help greatly appreciated!
By the way, my siphon hose would not go to the gas in the tank... is there a screen inside the tube somewhere?

I'm not familiar with the Mondial t gas tanks, but two quick thoughts that may apply. At some point, all cars coming into the US and all US manufactured cars were required to install anti-syphon devices in the filler neck. That may be why you can't get the syphon hose down there.

The other thing is that the easiest way to drain the gas tank is to disconnect the fuel line at the fuel pump, put on a piece of fuel hose, and use the pump to transfer the fuel to a plastic gas container (I use 5 gal. cans and pour the gas into another car that is conveniently near empty). By simply turning the pump on and off, you can pretty much empty the tank. Once you've run the tank dry with the pump, there will still be gas in there, so be careful. If the Mondi t tanks are similar to the 3x8 tanks, there will be a cross-over pipe with a drain plug underneath the car. If you are lucky and can get that drain open, drain the remaining fuel out through that.

One suggestion -- be sure to do this outside, and be very, very careful. You are playing with gasoline. 'nough said. And have a couple of fire extinguishers on hand, just in case. And remember, any spark, including static electricity, can ruin your day.

Kill the piliot lights on any appliance.
After pumping out all gas, I just cut the 1.5" balance tube in half, and out came all the left over gas. (2 gal)

Note: 2 Gal is left in the tanks when empty.

    STOP, DROP and ROLL..!

Not to mention, re sparks, GROUND THE TANK WITH A GOOD COPPER WIRE, SAY, 12 GAUGE TO GROUND!!!!!!! This should avert a spark catastrophe . ground to the actual ground, not the car.
