The gas struts on my car (‘03) are having difficulty keeping the front hood/boot lid open. See part number 7 in this diagram. I know it’s not a lot of money in the scheme of things but since they’re $121 each, anyone have alternatives to OEM replacements?

The actual manufacturer is a company called Stabilus. I was able to buy the front hood in an identical size locally. Cost was around $40AUD.

Im not sure if its the same as F430 but mine is going dead too so I replaced mine a year ago now.

I believe I paid $52.00 each at Scuderia Car Parts USA.

Very easy to replace. No need to remove the nut holding the strut. Just pull the clip to release the dead strut, then snap the new one in.

    Hope that helps.

If you know your spec (type of ends i.e. ball or socket, compressed and extended lengths and Force) you can get them at
www.liftsupportsdepot.com(no affiliation). Also allows for stronger or weaker units e.g if you added a spoiler to the back.

I have used them for several times in the past

So hopefully someone has a part number for a suitable non-OEM replacement. Ricambi no longer has any, and alternative suppliers now charge a fortune for remaining stock.

Aha! Same part number is listed by Ricambi for both 430 coupe and 360 spider. So this part listed for 430 should work.
