I want to start off by saying thank you to the Fchat member that did this mod a few years ago and posted the idea and pix of integrating a garage door opener into the overhead light trim panel as this was his great idea.

Over the weekend I got a black small square momentatry switch and installed it in the blank switch bank hole to the left of the steering wheel. I took the circuit board out of the small handheld clicker opener wrapped it in open cell foam and zip tied it up under the dash running the wires to the switch in the switch bank. To connect the switch I just had to remove the switch on the circuit board and solder the pair of wires across each of the 2 sets of holes that had common continuity. A quick continuity measurement tells you which two holes need to be soldered together.

It works great and is soo much more convienent than having a separate opener in the car.

Cool idea well done!...I've been kicking around the idea of finding a rear view mirror similar to the one in the F430 that has home link buttons built in.
Have not done much research but Im sure I'm not the only one who has thought of this...it all beats having the garage remote laying in the vehicle.

Excellent idea! Just out of curiosity. Are there any switches available that resemble the other 3 switches, but are spring loaded or would similarly function as a garage remote???

Mine with a Homelink system incorporated into the overhead panel in a 575M. Even has the little LED to let you know it is working.

Nice work I plan on doing the same in my 360 , I did this mod to my old 996 turbo using a targa roof switch to keep it looking factory as the symbol on the switch resembled a door opening .

On the ferrari the closest symbol I could find to use would be a glovebox switch.

Excellent!! Can you please keep us updated when you do this? Particularly as it pertains to the wiring. I can likely do this if I see it, but it is beyond me to figure it out. Thank you!

That's a great idea Neil to reuse the glove box switch. I may have to update my little black button. We'll see if I can find that switch online, if so I'm in. I'm sure the dealer wants like $1000 for it if they can even get it so Im not going there.

I bought a switch yesterday on ebay for £34 so when it arrives I will look out a spare door remote and solder in some jumper wires.
I guess the switch will have to go under the cover by the fuel flap, bonnet release as I dont have a blank on the dash panel.

Another great idea - it looks just like an old style swing open garage door. I'll go online and look for a used switch today.

Carried out this mod today fairly simple , worst part was trying to un solder the switch from my door remote.
As I have fitted a carbon cup holder where the ashtray was I used the illumination feed for the old lighter so the switch lights up aswell.
I secured my remove under the cup holder so it's easy in the future if I need to change the battery.

I'd love to hear what you did. Sounds interesting and a great replacement for the simple rear view mirror.

My garage door opener went bad so I bought and installed a new one. So now since my old remote that i hooked up in the 430 wont work I have to make a new one. Not sure if I can do it now tho see pics. There's no soldering points on the new one. Any ideas are appreciated

Need to see the other side of the circuit board. But I would assume the red button is the one that needs hooked up. If the black one on the left has wires soldered on the back, then that is it.

Alternately, usually you can take the old receiver and install it on the new opener.

How did you know how to hook up the old remote?

Assuming the Ferrari switch doesn't attach to the car in any way, you'd just have to wire the Ferrari switch in parallel with the "S4" microswitch. Just follow the wiring (tracks) from the microswitch to the nearest solder points. We'd need shots of the back of the board.

Does the microswitch have 4 contacts? If so, you'd have to remove the old microswitch from the board (taking not of the orientation) and figure out what the four contacts do.

Do you know what made the old one fail?

Well, I think I figured it out, but what you're looking at in previous pic is the front on both of the circuit boards. This picture here is the back of the boards and as you can see on the back of it where I connected the wires on the old one. The new one doesn't have anywhere to solder to. so I took a chance and soldered to the front and it worked. i hope I got it soldered good enough.... My original garage door opener was seventeen years old so it's seen it's day.

Here's the front of it where I soldered the new wires to. the soldering points were much smaller for sure. I was a little leery of doing it.

so the white wire came off along with the solder point. I can still use the same block(sw4) solder points that are at 10 and 4 oclock... Other than messing with the red button block. This would be my last chance.

sw4 will still work. if I attach at the 10 and 4 o'clock points it will work. Maybe jb weld?
