It also ran with Sliks on, thats another reason why it didnt count
There's always the car TOP GEAR wouldn't show... Road legal, Bridgestone road tyres, can cross a speed bump and is in production (limited)... costing about £45,000 GBP (depending on engine spec.). The ULTIMA GTR... go to: http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/Video.aspx?f=videos and scroll down you'll find their own lap of the TOP GEAR track (professional video of...). The time is not bad for a car worth 1/10 of an Enzo. David
Im not sure the FXX is just an uberly tuned Enzo. Maybe RTB and Manuma could comment on that. And the FXX used slicks where the Caparo was probably using road legal tyres.
The laps of the Ultima GTR were not televised, along with the caterham 7 CSR. 1:12.8 - Ultima GTR720 sponsored by Ultima Sports, anonymous driver. 1:17.4 - Caterham 7 CSR 260 sponsored by Dunlop - Injection, driven by Rob Jenkinson. Non Qualifying Cars ( FXX now here) 0:31.2 BAE Sea Harrier (fighter jet) (Took off then flew around track, ended in the air.) 0:59.0 Renault R24 Formula One car (Mildly moist) 1:08.6 Aston Martin DBR9 1:10.6 Caparo T1 1.10.7 Ferrari FXX (driven by Michael Schumacher, Slick Tires) 1:19.1 Radical SR3 1:22.6 Westfield XTR2
Yes, but the Caparo is too light, too dependent on speed to generate downforce, too unreliable, too unsafe, too expensive, and it's tires are almost slicks. It really is a formula car for the road, but you have to be as mad as them to purchase their car. I recommend you to watch Top Gears review on the Caparo. Jeremy Clarkson said if the track is wet, the car would spin the rear tires through third and Fourth gears.
This is what worries me the most... how can a DBR9 be 2 seconds faster than an Evo FXX?? Its 600hp vs 860hp! This is not possible. It was a little bit of a let down for me. I guess the track suited the Aston better. After all the FXX seemed to be more affected by the bump on the hammerhead turn.
The Aston is a 100% purpose built race car, with not one real part used on the road car. The FXX is technically not....it uses 75% of the road cars parts. IMO, the fact it's so close is damn impressive.
If the FXX were a full on race car then it would have been much quicker! It is a development car based on the Enzo, that runs on "conservative" slick tyres that are very very different to sticky Michelin race tyres.
Exactly! The DBR9 has lots more downforce and proper racing tyres. And in de-restricted form (non Le Mans/FIA GT spec), the engine is probably good for 800bhp+....... To be accurate, the central part of the chassis, the roof and the engine block all have to be identical to the roadcar.
