What is the ball-of-fire most fun car you have had? Mine is my Jackson Racing supercharged Miata. Ah... top-down on a clear day I sneer at all others. Yours?

"What is the ball-of-fire most fun car you have had?"

Great question, 2 answers. Putting aside Ferraris:

The 1969 Datsun 2000 I flogged in high school probably takes the honors. Lucky I didn't die in it. Kind of a Miata predecessor. I still own the car, and am having it completely restored.

Second place: 1993 Porsche RS America. I beat that car down with track use, starting at Mid-Ohio when the odometer had about 700 miles. It slowly turned into a track only car, until finally it met its end in a concrete wall just up the hill from the Billy Mitchell bridge at Road America.

My little MGB, its a '71. By no means is it an F-car, or anything fast for that matter... but by god I've had some fun driving it. I'll post a pic some time if I can get my scanner working for my ridiculous computer.

The top honor for the car that always make me smile whenever I am behind the wheel is the MX-5.

    Luckily, I still own one...:)

    Three cars come to mind

    1. 1969 Camaro Z28 302 4 speed 4 wheel disc brakes, the fun factor was when I took a rear end from a 1969 Ford Courgar XR7 428, it was a rare 2 speed 9 inch Ford that I modifed to fit in the Camaro. It was the best of both worlds, you could "launch" with the 4.56 low set and then after getting into third gear shift the diff into the 3.23 setting and then the car was like a rocket. I had the REAL Trans AM intake and carb set up which was dual Holleys that were modified for road racing. Off road Header set up and no back seats, radio, heater etc. This car hauled ass and actually had brakes but the tires were the limiting factor.

    2. 1972 240Z Datsun. This was a daily driver and for a straight six it was a pretty powerfull car. I changed the ignition to a MSD box and modified a Chevy dist to help the MSD fire properly. This really changed the bottom end of the car and it was very cheap to run.

    3. 1972 Datsun 510. I can hear you all saying now what is this guy who drove a North American hot rod like the Camaro doing driving Japenese cars. Well, I really like the 510 because it was a previous rally car and was a real screamer but it was very costly to run as you had to run race fuel and I didn't like paying $6 a gallon for fuel so..........out came the 4 cylinder and in went a 1965 high output 289 Mustang engine mated to a Corvette 4 speed. It only took one night to make the motor mounts as the Chey V8 oil pan did not fit the frame without alot of mods. I had a friend who owned a machine shop and he was keen to do the swap. A Corvette rear end was fitted into the Datsun chassis and 1 week later we had our Fordsun. No headers as the stock manifolds worked fine and was easier to work on. It had so much power anyway that the next major thing that had to be done was better brakes. The rally brakes were ok but the V8 was so quick that you could get into areas of "oh ****" much faster. This car was a real sleeper. I drove it for 2 years and then sold it as it was.

Question to all who are taking part in this poll. Of all the cars you could "bring back" from your youth which one would it be?

    For me all three!!

I would then put the Camaro back to stock and sell it and put that money towards a Ferrari F40.

I have owned a bunch but for me, my current toy is the most fun car I have owned. FIAT Dino Spider, that twin-cam V6 sounds incredible and due to the fairly light body, it moves out quite well. But the impressive part is the way it hangs onto the road. Until I can afford a V12 spider this might be my last toy, I can see keeping this one for a very long time.

I too had an older Miata, a black 97 that just a few week ago was traded in on a brand new silver 6 speed Miata. It and the 308 are bags of fun. The Miata is my daily source of fun and the 308 is my week-end toy that is sometimes used during the week. It all depends on how bad, or good the week is going.

Can't nail it down to just one.

1956 Chevy Sedan Delivery with a 392 cu in Chrysler Hemi for sheer acceleration.

Lowered 1956 Chevy 1/2 ton shorty pickup with Chevelle sub-frame and 400 HP 350 small block for looks and performance

1972 Datsun 240Z for daily performance fun and handling.

If it had 100 more HP and aftermarket suspension my '78 308 GTS would be it.

I was thinking about this, this weekend. I want a Cobra with a mega motor to tinker under the hood with, soup up like hell and thrash the nuts off... none of which i really feel comfortable doing in my 328.
