Is this just me? I just wanted to use my standard fuel gauge to check on the health of my fuel pumps.
I released the pressure on the rail with a screw driver pushing on the valve. Letting fuel out in a rag.
Then screw in my trusted fuel pressure gauge. Start the car. -> no reading.

Puzzled :( maybe my gauge is faulty. Go to my Spec Miata test port. Release pressure with a screw driver. Screw the gauge, start the engine and it reads the expected 36psi.

The only explanation I have is that the core is more recessed on the 360 and the pin on my gauge adaptor is not long enough to push on the valve to open it. It’s actually pretty obvious comparing both.

Any thoughts or experience here? Short of taking the core out and make more of a mess when taking it out and disconnecting the gauge after pressure is back.

My Tester works great too. Never a problem.
As a matter of fact I carry it around for emerg testing on long trips just in case.

The easy answer would be to grind down the tip of your tester so it has a shorter reach. The other option would be to make or buy an extension, like they have on big rig trucks. You can buy them for a few bucks at any auto parts store.

I think my problem is the opposite. The tip of the tester appears to be too short.

Ok. Just to close on this. The O’Reilly “loan-a-tool” worked well.
Measured 50psi at Idle, 40psi after 1h30 rest. Both banks the same.
Well within specs according to WSM.

Buy new shrader valve core high quality for fuel. Go ask parts guy at Napa autoparts. Unscrew with valve core tool replace new at right level just finger snug to hold seat. If you don't know what that feels like have a pro do that. Now your gauge should work fine
