My fuel door works intermittently. Sometimes I push the button and the door pops right open. Other times nothing and I am resorting to the emergency pull cord in the engine compartment. Both the fuse the relay look to be good and with it working intermittently I don't know if either would be the culprit.

Any suggestions on where else to look? I've seen another post about problems with the actuator. I'll take a look and see what I can do there but if there is something else that I am missing, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with my 348. A small amount of wd 40 at the locking pin solved the problem. I have to repeat this about once a month....

Mine was sticking. I just took of the Actuator and cleaned it up with a wire brush and WD40. Also the electrical conectors to it. Its a simple fix and very easy to do. Rear wheel of and a section of the inner wheel arch plastic out and its there.
Time wise it takes less than an hour easly.

+1, I did the same thing Pete. After lubrication, I never had the problem again.

Same for me that was 5 years ago. I honestly think if you drive them more thus using fuel more oftain helps.

Do you remove the actuator to do it or just spray it on it from inside the fuel door?

No need to remove it, just spray around the button well and actuate several times.

+1. WD 40, or just about any aerosol lubricant will do the trick. Spray, work plunger several times, give it another shot...repeat.

Some have found corrosion on the electrical connection on the actuator/plunger itself, and redoing the stake on connector can be helpful. But start with the lubrication first.

Do you have the rubber fuel "bib" in your refueling bay? I noticed mine wouldn't always pop open when I first got the car, and figured out that the rubber bib, if not tucked in under the actuator pin when I was closing everything up after fueling, would sometimes get in the way of the actuator movement. I carefully tuck it in under the pin each time now and never have a problem with the door opening every time.

I usually pound on my button about 10 times to get the door to open. Like playing whack a mole in your car.

Just a point to note -if you have your emergency pull cord "wrongly adjusted" it can cause problems with thenormal operation from the button. Pathetic I know but you need to have the flap shut then gently pull the emergency lead till it pops open then push the pull cord handle back just a tiny amount. Any further and it can in effect lock your flap!

I know this after having a perfctly working flap but decided to pull the cord just out of curiousity then just shoved it back all the way afterwards. Ha a sticking flap after that! :-(

+1 on the lubrication plus there is also a relay and fuse - obviously check fuse if it never works and try swapping relay if its a bit "reluctant"

Terribly awkward, although I treat mine to a shot of WD40 as needed, there is still that moment when I pull up to the pump with a line behind me and suffer from performance anxiety ("please open and don't make me look like an idiot") - ha.

    Easy solution to this....

Just pop the fuel lid as you pull into the petrol/gas station but not driven up to the pump. If you have "flap fail" just simply pull into a parking bay and go in and buy a bar of chocolate bar instead. Sometimes I hop my flap fails! LOL

When this happens at the pump, simply open the engine bay and pull the fuel flap cord. Any one who does not know about Ferrari will think it's all part of the refueling process:D
Works with great effect for the 512 BB guys;)

I have had to do this on occasion and it only adds to the intrigue of the car while at the pump. Now that I used a little WD40 the flap pops right open so it seems to be no longer an issue.

    this just happened to me...lol

pulled up to fill up.. pressed fuel door button from inside the car.. lid popped open perfect as usual..

fuelled up.. screwed cap back down.. folded bib back.. and closed hatch.. but it did not close.. it just bounced back open..

looked at the pin-rod.. and looked pushed in/stuck in open position..

got my fingers in there to pull the pin back out.. it was pretty hard/tight..
but finally got the pin back in full out position..
closed the lid.. it stayed closed now.. but does not lock.. if I pull on the edge of lid with my finger.. I can get it open..?

had to repeat again.. to pull pin out.. to get it closed.. it must be by millimetres the pin is out just enough to hold lid closed via the hook on lid.. but obviously the pin is not going through the hook enough to lock it..

I guess i'll try some lub around the pin.. as others have done..

want more refueling fun? Lose the rubber gasket inside the cap. Then with the normal gas tank fuel pressure/vacuum, create all new curse words as you try to no avail to get that fuel cap off to put gas in. I left a gas station more than once in frustration. I use to carry washerman's pliers until I figured the missing gasket was the culprit. $90 later for a new gas cap and problem has never returned.

There'a a thread in the 360/430 section regarding what's most enjoyable about the ownership experience. One guy said something to the effect of, "Wondering what weird problem is going to show up next." Fortunately, we don't have nearly as many potential issues as those guys do, but there's always that underlying sense of wonder at what's going to go wrong next. ;)

Mine used to work perfectly for many many years. :)

These days I have to keep the WD40 up to it also to keep it from sticking.

Just sprayed it the other day again actually.

    Old cars for you. :D
