Have been thinking about specking out a 488 Spider and waiting for exactly what I want. wondered if there is some guidance on how important the front Suspension lifter is at 5,000 dollars. i live in Florida, some speed bumps and driveway issues pulling into Shopping centers or gas stations but roads are smooth. Guidance will be greatly appreciated

I have the suspension lift option, and use it often for assist with drive entrances and exits, and would not consider another Ferrari without the lift.

Get it. If it saves you damage only once it will be worth it.

I do not have it on my 458 here in NY with speed bumps and a severely inclined driveway and have had no problem with bottoming out as long as I don't go fast and angle the exit slightly
The one time I did bottom out(making a stupidly fast u turn in a strange driveway) caused no damage to the metal tray underside or to the front spoiler.
My incoming 488 has a slightly shorter front overhang so I didn't order it for that either

I labored on this forever. Ultimately, I went ahead and did. I do not have one on my SLS and haven't needed it. Seems to be a must option on a Ferrari. Everyone including my dealer has told me to do it. This will be my first Ferrari with the lift.

I'm also in Florida, have driven my 458 Spider about 11k miles. It does not have a lifter. I've never bottomed out, but I do enter my driveway on a slight angle, it is moderately sloped at the entrance. I did not order it on a 488 Spider I have coming later this year. Not saying don't get it, that's a decision you make, but I don't miss it on my 458 and doubt that will change for 488.

Also, if you do get it, remember to use it. I've got a friend in Chicago that has bottomed out several times because his judgment on when to use it is faulty. :)

I questioned this alot as well as it's effectively $14k (with the AFS lights) in Australia. I don't regret it and definitely needed it on a few occasions and not 100% sure on many others - but the peace of mind of being able to press a button and have no worries is worth it imo. Watch the following and if this doesn't concern you don't worry about ordering it.

FYI I have ordered it on my 812 at a cost of $15k and didn't hesitate this time.

I ordered it on my 488 Spider. I have a slanted driveway and wanted it for that. However, IMO, worth having it for peace of mind when you may need it.

Dealers have told me that it's difficult to sell on secondary market without this option. I'd get it just for peace of mind and not to shoot yourself in the foot if you decide to sell it later.

I live in Tampa and have never once bottomed out. It goes over speed bumps and entrances to shopping centers without a problem. Save the money!

I'm in Tampa and have put 15,000 miles on my 458 spider-- never scrapped the front and I have a steep driveway entrance. My 360 used to scrape quite often but the 458 does not.

the car sits like an SUV stock so you shouldn't have any issues without it. just angle up the inclines.

i'm lowered on novitecs without the lifter and i do fine. but i dont drive it in 'new' areas i haven't been to before.

If this is your first Ferrari , get it for sure, it will allow you to "learn" without causing any damage.

With that said, you have another, less expensive option .... just add skid plates.
Fraction of the cost, and it give you a buffer in case you make a "mistake"...

As commented above , its a very dear option in Australia. And realistically only lifts around 4 cm. Really not much. The Lambo is close to 10 cm.

I believe approach at an angle is the best

A friend who just recently purchased a used 458 stated at dinner tonight he passed on several cars because they did not have the lifter.

I live in Miami, with a Speciale. I recommend the front lift and the Backup camera! I had an Italia prior without both front lift and camera it was a nightmare. Now that I have both I can literally get into anywhere! Very Happy with the speed of the lift as well!

I use my lift on a regular basis. A must have in the resale market especially if buyers want to lower the vehicle. Either way ...enjoy!

The answer truly depends on where you live, why don't you rent a sports car with similar ground clearance to the 488 and see if you scrub anything driving around places you frequent?

My first Ferrari (Cali T HS) would slightly scrub certain parking garages that I frequent, that car has more ground clearance than the 488, so getting the suspension lifter was an easy decision.

As mentioned, I don't have it, and don't need it, BUT as others have noted you might consider it if:

    1. Your roads/driveways, etc. indicate a need for the lifter.
    2. You need the piece if mind....

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't buy just because of potential resale issues. While there will always be those buyer's that must have it, and therefore will not buy used without it, my dealer indicated that as a general resale statement it didn't matter to most buyers. Far more important was color, both exterior and interior, and miles. At least one other dealer agrees.

Logically, the more options you have on the car, the easier it is to resell (but don't expect to recover the costs), and that fact is a wonderful "selling tool" for the initial dealer.

I live on the North Shore of Long Island, and seem to use it at least once on virtually every trip around this hilly area with inclined driveways (homes, gas stations and shopping areas). I even scraped once on an intersection (when I failed to use the lifter). Florida is much flatter, and you might be able to get away without it.

I live in Sarasota and have the lifter in my 458 spider. I would not order it if I was speccing a car.
