I’ve searched the forum and read a bunch about the front license plate mounts by a few companies out there. These seem to attach to the grill…. Is there an option to use the tow hook to mount a license plate? i read the the grill can break with the grill mounts.

    Thanks!

    Sandman,
Can you send the same info to me? I think it would be preferable vs grill. First choice would be no plate, but NY State is nuts about this...

I live in Massachusets where a front license plate is required. In fact at the annual inspection I have to temporarily attach the plate. Just before I bought my 612 in 2013, I went to a Ferrari event. I noticed almost all the cars did not have a front plate. I asked several of the owners if no front plate was a problem. They all said unless you are stopped for another violation, the police don't stop you for no front plate.

Well I've driven my 612 for over 60,000 miles and my FF for 13,000 miles without a front plate. I've driven past many police cars and have never even gotten a dirty look. So I guess you might want to inquire whether your local police even give a damn. :D

Sadly they do. To keep NYC running with our Swiss-like efficiency and sterling public services is expensive. They will even have meter-maids (I expect that term is passe, but I am beyond caring, you get what I mean...) go into open parking lots and ticket you there, or if you street park it is an added gift. Two buddies at least have had the fun... $292. Infuriating...

Yes, in Mass. the meter maids (I still call them that also) will ticket for an expired inspection sticker (not sure about front plates), but only on the street. It seems it should be illegal for them to go on private property and write a ticket.

BTW, I just read an article about how people are altering their plates to avoid the congestion charge. I imagine an altered plate would bring a substantial fine.

It's crazy! 73,000 ghost cars and unregistered motorized vehicles, including scooters, bikes, and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), have been caught in teh last few years. The best are the "plate flippers" a James Bond-style plate rotation device they catch on people...Two days after FOX 5 sent the MTA the video of the license-plate-flipping car, the agency ran a sting using license plate readers and nabbed 17 cars, which owed the MTA over $530,000 in tolls and fines. Those cars with New York plates were towed and the drivers had to find their way home. How the hell do 17 cars owe $530,000 in tolls???

That’s clever, though I suppose it wouldn’t be a “toll.“ I do remember years ago I would drive by with my EZ Pass going through the Lincoln tunnel and ask myself “why do all these people from New Jersey lineup to pay cash?“ I even thought to myself “some of them are in Mercedes and Lexus. Obviously they can afford a $25 EZ Pass…“ And then someone connected the dots in my brain. They did not want to pay New York City working tax so they just pretended they weren’t there by paying cash at the toll.

When I was living in Manhattan about 20 years ago, I parked my 911 on the street and fed the meter. Came back to a ticket for no front plate, plus another one for having a clear cover on the back plate. New York City has been enforcing here things for a long time!

BTW, I visited an (unnamed) F dealership yesterday, and they noted a) no one uses them outside Manhattan and b) they block sensors...

This and I’ve read that the tow hook plate method blocks the air intake!?!

Typical Gotham Horse****. Many rice burners, bahn runners and quite a few F cars use the tow hook option here. Simple, car show removable, autobahn-like time trial removable, no issues at the car wash.
Yes, they block the sensor, but at autobahn speeds (I know, the L.I.E. doesnt have that zone), I dont really worry about the parking sensor.
block, no. disrupting airflow designed in Maranello, yes.
Its 1F outside today in our backyard. I think the engine is getting sufficient cooling.

There was another post awhile ago from our area, where the lawyer owner rode around with the plate in the trunk and a copy of the law that permitted driving around in our area without the plate displayed. current regulation unknown. I have been ticketed in the burbs for this. I have seen posts of the City ticketing inside the airport parking lots for no/improper display. Like our 'Amici' in NYC, the airports are city property.
