What is the law in WA? I was told Saturday that for exotics not necessary. But I got pulled over for not having it on Saturday going to E@RTC. No ticket, sometimes it helps to be a woman. Said we got the car cleaned and forgot to put it back on. I was two blocks from my house...Went back put it on and guess what 5~6 blocks from my house another cop was looking for me If you have a link to the law that says OK for exotics not to display ront plate please provide. I will print and stuff it in the glovebox. Just in case. Thank you
Stephanie: Yes, our wonderful State does require a front license plate. The only way you can get out of it, is if your car has an exemption. My Lamborghini Countach has one as does Tom's Lamborghini LP-670SV. Basically, it boils down to this.... The State Patrol goes to the manufacturer's site and looks to see if they make a front license plate frame. If the manufacturer shows a part number for a front plate frame, you can't get an exemption. Many folks have tried to use the argument that it "blocks the air intake, etc." but it falls on deaf ears. I have a written exemption I keep in the glovebox with my registration to show in case I ever get pulled over. My Maserati Quattroporte is a perfect example. Maserati makes a front plate frame, so I can't get an exemption for that car. I still haven't mounted it, but it is in the trunk so I can say "Gee Officer, I just haven't mounted it yet...". Here is a great thread on the subject with links to the law, etc..: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/northwest/216018-wa-no-front-licence-plate-waiver.html Mike
Pretty much unless you can license it as a classic (30 years old or more) you will be fighting an uphill battle at best. The WSP wants the plates there.....period. It would be interesting to see if more people are issued tickets for no front plate by them or by local LEO's. Who knows.
Unfortunately, as stated above, you must have a front plate. I received a $215 ticket in Fed Way to prove this point. I have since mounted my plate on a bracket that screws into the tow hook mount (easy to remove @ events). I also trimmed the top & bottom of the plate to the size displayed through a plate frame. Crazy part is if you get historic plates they dont come with a front plate.
It's a battle that car enthusiasts with cars that would look a lot better with no front plate such as most all exotics and a number of street rods have fought for years. I got nailed in my hot rod pickup when I had the bracket at the chrome shop being plated a number of years ago. I had the plate in the truck but no place to put it and that wasn't good enough for them. I only got a fix it ticket and took the truck in and showed them that the plate was mounted on it's shiny new bracket and that was done with.
i have a collectiable plate on my alfa, and i only was issued one plate, for back.no front plate.on my ferrari i have no front plate, but i carry it under my front seat,if i get pulled over i just pay,for it,lucky so far not yet.
There is no factory accessory for a front plate on the 458. You should get a letter from FoS stating that. I have a police station at the base of my condo, well TopPot doughnuts I never get hassled.
Haven't had one on any of my cars for 30y and only got stopped once- Pretty much a luck thing I guess and not running into the front "license plate specialist" I am taking the attitude of this just being the cost of living here and will pay the ticket if issued. I will look at the official waiver though for the Boxer-good info
