Hi all, my 208 GT4 is due to arrive any day now from Italy and it does not have the front fender decal. I'm considering adding it as I like the look but am open to opinions on whether to do it or not?

Also, if I did proceed, what is the FerrariChat approved version/vendor to purchase from? I've seen versions that are slightly raised which feel higher quality. Thanks! - Rich

Congratulations on your car. I find the GT4 everyday more and more appealing.

If you don’t want anything permanent, use the magnetic shield.

I think the car looks great the way it is, factory correct, however their is no official/ unofficial vendor to buy these stickers from.

I personally think they are all as bad as each other (and some are just plain hideous) but if you must then I agree, go magnetic so it can be removed without any fuss or damage.

The car was never produced / made available with fender shields. The previous advice is correct anyway, and go with magnetic shields.

I agree with Rosey, very clean lines. Less is more - My 328 has the really expensive shields on it (both sides) and it came that way when bought it from a collector. I would prefer not to have them on. I believe mine are glued on so I would need a big paint correction.

Do what you want Rich....it's a sticker for crying out loud. If I were putting them on my car, I'd actually go with a thinner, foil/vinyl based version....looks a little less like a wart that way, but just my opinion.
Beautiful car btw...I think shields would look awesome on it...adding a focal point to that sea of gorgeous silver.

If you are going to add shields try to find nice quality cloissone baked ones. Try E-bay but double check that the cavallino has all the correct markings and looks close to factory. Think there is a seller i-veloce that had nice ones.

I say that because there are Chinese shields that pop up but they are off color, paint chips and horse is not correct.

The raised sticker type shield is “okay” but too small if you compare to oem Ferrari shields.

The nice cloissone metal shields come with 3M backing tape. If you ever want to remove them - warm them up with hairdryer and run floss underneath. They come off. I took off 2 pairs that way and no underneath paint damage.

I like shields on the car. But, it’s my personal opinion. It’s a Ferrari, the car already calls for attention and it’s ok if you want to customize it with some taste. Let’s face it; lots of us fell in love with these cars having those awesome yellow shields on the fenders!

Sure, no prob. Use a hairdryer, not a heat gun. I used floss and one time I also used thin fishing line. After decal is off, you can use light polish and then (or, just) apply wax.

The problem with those shields is, as expensive as they may be, they're too thick, and sit to far off the wing/fender, making them look like an after thought/add-on.

They look like someone has copied them from an original Ferrari shield, that was designed to sit in a recess in the wing/fender on later cars.

I agree, that is why I'm not a fan of them on my 328. They look great on other cars. I will probably try Mike's idea with a hair dryer.

As so many others here have said, I wouldn’t put them on a street car that was never meant to have them in the first place. I have them on my 308 but it’s one of the Group 4 cars still used for historic racing. That said, they’re simply flat stickers on mine, which I like (I will post a pic).

Two of my other cars have them (F40 and 360) but they’re from the factory and a very different set up than the shields people add after.

Furthermore, you have a Dino. I can’t speak for others but I think a 308 GT4 is much cooler when it has the horizontal Dino badge and all the Dino emblems as opposed to the later Ferrari ones that were done after the fact. Massive bonus if you have one of the original Dino emblem key rings. Now if you have a late late car that got Ferrari badging from the factory (and if year 1976?) and not after, then you can’t put Dino badges back. However, still not a reason for shields.

Anyway, there would have been zero reason for a Dino to have Ferrari shields on it at any point so I’m not a fan of adding them now.

Thanks. They’re the magnesium Marvic versions as the original Campagnolo ones are too old to be safe. Marvic sells these still today so anyone with a 308 can get a set.

I’ll find a pic of the whole car so you can see the sizing.

The Ferrari wing/fender shields are Ferrari's version of ///M badges on BMW's - Most people don't really care, but to others, it's the biggest bastardisation of the car involved ever, and completely ruins the car (despite the fact that, in 99.99999% it is the easiest thing on the planet to reverse).

As already stated in this post, some people declare that they would never fit the shields to cars that didn't come from the factory with them.

Others will say that they would never fit the shields to any Ferrari that wasn't a competition car (Which is where the shields appeared first, on Alfa Romeo Grand Prix cars, run by Enzo Ferrari, long before he created the Ferrari car company).

(Gilles Villenueve happily drove around Toronto in a Ferrari Mondial 8 in early 1982, that had his name on the drivers door, and horror of horrors - Prancing horse shields on the front wings/fenders [It was not a factory car, but supplied for his use by a local dealership]. The Mondial 8 was most definitely not a competition car, but Gilles didn't care about the shields on the wing, and Ferrari didn't seem to care that much either [His company 308 GTB did not have shield badges on the wings/fenders though] )

And others either don't know what cars had the wing/fender shield badges, or simply just don't care.

Ferrari themselves started to put the shield badges on the 288 GTO road cars in 1984 (the GTO was originally intended to race in Group B, but the class was banned before it had a chance to race, so the competition qualification was kind of was in place), they put them on the F40, which was never originally planned to be a race car, despite its looks, and then started to fit them to standard, non-competition road cars, from the F355 onwards.

As noted already, to some, it's a major taboo having them on certain Ferrari's, to others it's no big deal - It's just a badge/sticker at the end of the day.

My 328 GTS came with them fitted, and I'm not that bothered about it - I think they look okay.

There again though, I fitted Ferrari shields to the wings/fenders of the little red FIAT X1/9 that I used to own - I figured she could dream! :D
