After having the under trays off for the first time while doing a Cambio Manuale manual conversion, I noticed that 3 of the tabs that hold the front under tray to the bumper were MIA so I set out to try to find a DIY fix for them.

I stumbled across 3M Super Fast Plastic Repair and after some trial and error and watching a few YouTube videos I found the product to be exactly what is needed to repair these broken tabs. I’m guessing there’s a lot of broken bumper tabs out there and thought sharing this would be helpful.

-You’ll need a non-stick plastic film and 2 flat surfaces to sandwich the product between to begin to form the epoxy into the shape you’re looking for. For this I used cut in half ziplock bags and 2 bondo spreaders.

    - I used a whiteboard marker to draw a rough outline of the shape I was looking for onto the bondo spreader so I was able to visualize where I needed more product.

    - I found the keys to making this work is to have everything ready and nearby, start applying the epoxy on the underside of the part you’re attaching it to first, and just go for it. If you hesitate the epoxy will harden before you get the outcome you want. It really does firm up within 20 seconds.

-Once the epoxy has hardened for 1 minute you can begin to shape it by trimming it with scissors. Then once it is rock hard you can do a final shaping with a sander or grinder.

-Some YouTube videos called for an Adhesion Promoter. I skipped this step because the 3m promoter was expensive and just made sure the are was clean. It seems to be working fine.

When I was working I noticed that the bumper had a big, poorly repaired hole in it. I fixed it with fiberglass and bondo to try to get the same profile as before. I found it best to do a lot of thin coats of the bondo sanding in between.

Unfortunately, if you don’t have the 2 part epoxy gun you’ll have to order that and you must order extra mixing nozzles, they are only good for 1 part and then you need to change. I order shorter nozzles so there wasn’t as much wasted epoxy.
