Monaco is an absolute joke of a track and has been for two decades - at least. The only reason it remains is because F1 is a cheap call girl that can't say no to the money they get to throw the parade, even as they act as if they're too good for proper race tracks where the fans can actually see real racing.
Hummm ... I don't think Monaco pays any fee to have the GP. It's an exception among circuits. F1 believes it needs Monaco on its calendar.
Liberty has renegotiated that agreement I believe. Everyone pays in the new profit /hype Marketing Event F1 by Liberty. Monaco admits it reluctantly signed current F1 deal to stay on calendar 31 May 2023
One of the first times I was left baffled with Ferrari's pit strategy. They let McLaren do the undercut, which ment giving McLaren track position advantage for second stint. And the trade off? Ferrari getting like 4 laps fresher tires, which ment nothing in Imola. They even cut it way too close in pitting Leclerc, Piastri even got into his DRS; Leclerc had a 4 sec gap before the pitstops and was like 1.6 seconds from Norris. Only ending after pitstops 1 second ahead of Piastri and like 4.5 seconds behind Norris. As a result Leclerc had to push way earlier than Norris to close the gap. McLaren and Verstappen were slightly faster than Charles today, but the strategy big heads didn't even give Charles a realistic chance to fight. Leclerc said that they lost all the lap time on straights, and RB/McLarens are maybe doing something different with their energy deployment. Something he said Ferrari could look into and fix. This was not a track suited to SF-24, so I still have hope after they tune the upgrades, that top step can be achieved in future races. Sainz 14 seconds down on Leclerc with pretty much same strategy...
But..but...but BINOTTO was the problem right????? Leclerc: Ferrari power strategy cost shot at better F1 Imola GP result Ferrari's power strategy in qualifying for the Formula 1 Imola Grand Prix cost the team a better result in the race, according to Charles Leclerc. "Looking back at yesterday, re-analysing qualifying. I think we basically lost everything at the launch [of the lap] for some reason," he said. "We had a slightly different power strategy compared to McLaren and Red Bull, and we lost everything on the run down to Turn 2 - Max, on top of that, had the slipstream. "This is something we'll have to look into because, especially on a track like this, track position is absolutely everything.
What on earth? Yes Binotto was 100% to blame for all the f ups in 2022, he was an absolute clown as a TP.
So now, it must be that Monaco thinks it needs F1. Monaco is fine as a track, but not for high powered cars like F2/F1 in a world championship, IMO. Fine for historic meetings, classic cars races, etc ... which also attract the kind of crowd Monaco wants. I wouldn't be surprised if Liberty wanted to replace Monaco with Las Vegas on the F1 calendar. To be honest Las Vegas has more to offer than Monaco; it's a circuit in town, with several casinos. It attracts the "right crowd" in terms of celebrities, fashion symbols, and provides huge entertainment, Las Vegas offers plenty of accommodations, and has its own airport. Monaco cannot compete with that.
Monaco is the best qualifying session on the calendar and it has provided many entertaining races over the years. Yes, it's hard to pass, but I look forward to it every year.
Nice to see that the season is not going to be a snooze fest. The right team back to P1 this week. Powered by Honda does P1, 8 (not so good), 10 and 13. Important podium earned for Ferrari.
5 MercedesAMGF1 powered cars in the top 10. 2 Ferrari powered cars in the top 10. 3 Honda powered cars in the top 10.
Math is fun With 8 AMG powered cars on the grid, 5/8 is 62.5% in the top 10 (if you write off Williams as just a waste of those lovely PUs, you would be 5/6 83.3%) With 4 Powered by Honda cars on the grid (one being piloted by DR so who expects any positive results) 3/4 is 75% in the top 10 For Ferrari the percentage isn't the story, to me it is that they have a good car, good team, good management, really good drivers and it shows
Las Vegas and Miami GP are clown shows. Its an overpriced money grab for Liberty. I'll never go to either event. I wont even watch the races on TV. I doubt either race will still be around in a couple of years no matter how much money they claim they are making.
I had a great time at Vegas. It was a show but honestly we are watching 3 cars in F1 from 5 teams. An amateur spec miata racing is more thrilling. You go for the show and Vegas is a show. It's vegas. Vegas is a fun place. We have places in this country like no other. There is no other NYC, San Francisco, New Orleans, or Vegas for example.
I was surprised that Ferrari didn't seem to try any long runs on medium tires during practice; McLaren did and I think it paid dividends during the race. Still, even getting Charles on the podium was a small victory; I was dumbfounded to hear that Ferrari hadn't been on an Imola podium since 2006!
Well, that's sort of a bogus stat. It's *true*, but there was no Imola race from 2007 to 2020, and there wasn't a race last year due to flooding.
The principality needs it or it is sunk. I went to Monaco in 81 when GV won, it has to be the biggest rip off on the planet........a bottle of coke, the drink not the other although i think the other would have been cheaper made me cough and a smalll baquette was over £30, back in 81!! Some official told me that the locals need the event as it brings in 40% of the principality's income for the year.
I missed the mid race period as i nodded off but woke up to see Norris closing in on Verstappen...........contrived was my first thought and still is.
