Post quali interviews made it pretty clear Carlos has been relegated to Chuck's rear guard. If Perez doesn't up his game, Carlos could wind up in a Red Bull next year.
Why ? Max don't need to win all the poles and all the races to get to the title. After winning it 3 times, he knows what it takes to win the championship. The others have nothing to lose on this Russian roulette circuit. I suppose Max plays the long game and keeps his powder dry for circuits where he will make the difference. To me, that's real proof that he has matured a lot over the years.
I'm not McLaren fan but there really a different team with Zak in charge. Good to see them fighting at the front, two very strong drivers and beating their engine supplier. Great job by Leclerc and Sainz to be 1 and 3.
To me, the difference at McLaren came when engineer Stella became principal. Seidl, who was principal before, acted like a caretaker without great conviction, probably waiting for when the job it was promised at Audi would be available.
Only a great driver gets 3 poles in monaco when not in a dominant car. Nothing but a win tomorrow would be a Ferrari disasterclass. They should even just throw Sainz race under the bus if needed, depending if McLaren try some undercut tactics. Forza Ferrari, Forza Charles, go get what's yours tomorrow!
Perez blames stickers, traffic for Monaco F1 qualifying "disaster" Sergio Perez lurched from "finding the light" in Monaco Grand Prix practice to a "disaster" in Formula 1 qualifying, and blamed traffic and advertising stickers for his Q1 exit.
Haas faces F1 Monaco GP disqualification for rear wing breach Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen face a possible disqualification from Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix qualifying for a rear wing infringement. After qualifying, both Haas drivers were found to have a rear wing with a DRS clearance that exceeds the maximum permitted limit of 85mm on the outermost areas. The FIA's technical delegate Jo Bauer flagged the issues after scrutineering, writing in a statement that "the uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions were checked on car numbers 20 and 27. "The LHS and RHS outermost area of the of the adjustable elements were exceeding the maximum allowed 85mm on both cars. "As this is not in compliance with TR Article 3.10.10 h), I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration." The stewards promptly summoned the Haas team for a meeting at 7:15pm local time. The transgression will almost certainly lead to both Hulkenberg and Magnussen being disqualified from Saturday's qualifying results.
An issue should have been addressed years ago. Alonso wants group qualifying in Monaco amid F1 traffic chaos Fernando Alonso suggested Formula 1 should introduce group qualifying to the Monaco Grand Prix weekend to reduce the element of luck from encountering traffic, after Q1 elimination left him 16th.
I'm not normally a guy that favors team orders, but I think they should do what it takes to get Charles on the top step tomorrow. Hopefully no, anti stall on launch, mechanical failures, crap pit stops, pit wall debacles or Charles over driving it.
And, he didn’t even need that extra tenth-and-a-half from the second run! Leclerc’s first run was already good enough for pole as it turned out.
Leclerc put up one of his magical laps. What a stunner. Around Monaco with these regs, a few tenths is a monster lap! Ferrari may be the best car this weekend, at least in quali and practice it was. McLaren are very close though. Red Bull may only have the 3rd or even 4th best car. Looks terrible over the bumps which was talked about coming into the weekend. Verstappen made an uncharacteristic mistake, but in the last 2 seasons he hasn't had to push so hard for a position outside the front row. Perez. Okay the car isn't great, but dude. Albon had a monster lap as well. Very very impressive. Gasly, huge props to him too. Alpine in general deserve some props. No doubt the car is 100% setup for quali, which most cars will have focused on, but I expect their race pace to struggle. Anyone behind him will have a rough day tomorrow. Mercedes not looking too bad, but in the end might finish where they usually do. As expected Hamilton went from being the happiest he's been all year in practice, to unhappy and disappointed and full of excuses in quali. Russell got the upgraded front wing, and even Toto says its not worth that much. No chance it's worth 2 tenths like Hamilton implies.
Finally!!!! Saying my prayers that they don’t screw up! Charles will be under a lot of pressure. God I hope he can keep it off the barriers tomorrow. I can’t imagine how hard that must be with others breathing down your neck. Santa Maria….
Haas F1 duo disqualified from Monaco qualifying over rear wing breach Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen have been thrown out of qualifying for Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix after their rear wings failed inspection.
McLaren: F1 Monaco GP banner issues 'unacceptable' McLaren and Lando Norris have labelled the advertising banner issues during Formula 1’s Monaco Grand Prix weekend as "not acceptable". In some areas, like the swimming pool, coverings have been rubbed away by cars repeatedly brushing the barriers. But, in Norris’s case, a whole section of the banners at Mirabeau was sucked off by the force of the cars running close to them. In the closing stages of Q1, Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz helped pull a banner away in that section, before Williams’ Logan Sargeant ran over one section. Then, a few moments later, Norris hit it and pulled it under his car. Norris was annoyed by the incident, which forced him into the pits with a few minutes of Q1 remaining – and risked him being knocked out completely. Autosport understands that the FIA instructed marshals to remove any loose banner sections between the different qualifying segments to ensure that there were no further problems in Q2 and Q3. Further changes will be made for the race given the problems, with the FIA confirming: "We've now decided to completely remove branding in some small areas for tomorrow."
NEVER GIVE UP. In order to finish first first you must finish. So starting 6th is better than 4th? on a track with almost 3 passing spots. Never give up
