Always reminding me of how old I am...thanks...;).

I do remember Sauber’s first year (and the actual return of the Mercedes-Benz name in F1).
Those cars were dandies and they had talent behind the wheel. It was fairly easy for the peanut gallery to determine they weren’t witnessing some Zakspeed, Kauhsen, Ram or EuroBrun outfit with pay drivers.

They were immediately competitive for a first year effort but tbh, Sauber were expected to be strong given their WSC reputation. F1 was in transition at that point and quite a few well known teams were on the verge of buckling or cutting back, making it a good time for Peter to make the jump, especially with Merc backing. Point accumulation was well within reach.

Nice to see them make 500! As for other challengers to that record...it’s fairly convoluted and there isn’t a single owner team that would be able to cover it unless you wanted to use Lotus under various permutations....

Enzo was furious when Lauda did that. Alot of tifosi weren't happy either.

I thought Ferrari supported Lauda's decision in public. Lauda was still recovering from the Nurburgring accident.

    Racing is dangerous.
Prost did the same as Lauda in Australia 1989.
    He was right I guess.

Niki was 3 points ahead of Hunt before the Fuji race.. Niki lost it due to his defiance.

Hunt won the race and the WDC.

Ferrari won the WCC despite Niki quitting the race.

Also because they have plenty of empty roads in the country to practice their skills.

Just being a postman, or a veterinary going from farm to farm in rural areas is a daily challenge.

Yup. Sub-minnow category, very early turbo era ;).
Think Apollon, Martini, Boro, Lec and Kojima. ;). In comparison, they make Theodore look the equivalent of Mclaren....;). Forgot a few others btw...
