I was also thinking about Bottas. What happened this weekend? So in Monaco I understand that if you get stuck behind another car, it will be
impossible to pass -- basically only through pitstops. If you have a bad quali you're almost doomed. But in Baku, this is an overtake happy place,
he should have been able to make progress as soon as the start (see Alonso, Checo), after the Safety Car and perhaps the second restart.
As long as you stay within 1 second, the long straight gives plenty of time to get the passes done. However, he went backwards through out the race.
Something is going on, it was so evident that perhaps Bottas should play the card that his chassis may be damaged (LOL), because nothing obvious
    came out from the race.

What a lovely way to explain our cozy little microcosm of outrage, passion, lament, intolerance and forethought.
Not everyone sees it the same way.

    Just as it should be.;)

What Mercedes said is that Hamilton and Bottas adopted different setting. Hamilton opted for more top speed, and Bottas more downforce.

Does that explain the huge performance difference? Not sure.

Was Bottas using the same chassis that had been damaged at Imola? Or is that looking too far back?

It's often the same people who have a chip on their shoulder and start a brawl on this forum, on the pretext that they are "trolled".

Most of the others can hold their liquor and be civilised, even if they don't share the same opinion. Just saying ...

Funny, but the F1 footage was superimposed over football (i.e. soccer) - England was playing in Euro 2016 and England scored the winner in the dying minutes of the game. Here's the original video:

    All the best,

It's simply an override setting that allows merc to run 90% of the brake bias to the front to heat the tyres, presumably when their battery is full already. I don't know if other teams have a hot switch for it, but basically, flicking this switch/button/paddle will override certain settings (brake bias, hybrid regen, engine brake etc), and put it back to normal once activated again. Any teams software engineer is able to program this in with ease, and nothing illegal about it (just a shortcut to get to certain settings in the end).

Every cloud has a silver lining, they say ...
In spite of exiting the GP rather precipitously, this weekend didn't end up too bad for Verstappen.
His rival himself failed to score, so the gap is still the same.
His team mate won and gathered more point for the team.

Unless things have changed recently their isn't a technical rule, it's part of the sporting code "the driver must drive the car alone and unaided".

Reno ran a computer controlled brake bias a few years back and were disqualified, it ended up being a former Reno employee that tipped off RP tho later Cyril admitted (2nd link) they been running it for years.

Thanks to you and Bas for the info. I'm usually pretty adept at figuring things out, but the byzantine rules of F1 take the cake, as they say. Every sport has its nuances that are invisible to the average fan, but F1's strategies and oddities are a sight to behold.

Well that was a fun race. Karma sorted out Hamilton and ensured the championship was not polluted by the ridiculous Pirelli tyre failure for Max. Only it wasn’t karma. It was Hams lack of preparation in the sim. It’s a well known fact that he hates the sim and he doesn’t do much of any practice because he doesn’t think he needs it. Well, that lack of familiarity with his equipment cost him a race win and might cost him the championship in the end. Silly boy.

Well done checo and Seb for two excellent drives. And the podium was great! Didn’t expect anything like that!

+1 Spot on. Sir Loo is too busy with travel, music, fashion and social media pursuits to spend time in the sim. If he was as dexterous with his controls as he is with his iPhone it probably wouldn't have happened.

Lewis holding his steering wheel weird. If he did indeed turn it off, i'm not surprised he knocked it by holding the wheel like this!

All drivers going by Verstappen's crash. Puts Leclerc and Russell's comments into perspective ("that's ridiculous")!

Ferrari, Mclaren and Williams drivers all backed off significantly, including also Mick, Alonso and Bottas. Pretty much everyone else went full throttle.

Bit ridiculous given Grosjean's accident last year.

Rosberg appears to have a crystal ball or something. Makes a good point regarding that pit wall prior to the weekend. Masi has no interest in fixing it as of yet...If either Stroll happened a little bit later or max veered left instead of right, would've been an enormous accident.
