Okay so I finally got to drive my buddy's new Ford GT tonight...drove from Belltown over to Bellevue and back...unfortunately I stupidly took 520, which gave little opportunity to open it much beyond 110...but all I can say is WOW! First off, I have to say that the experience is not unlike driving a Gallardo...the way the power delivery comes on is similar, and the gobs of torque....similar engine sound too, that "turbine" sound. But just more power, MORE torque...and the handling is amazingly good...steering ratio is very quick...not sure what it is, but responds well. I think this car is actually a bit more nimble than the Gallardo. Grip was very good, ride was compliant, and MUCH better damped than on my 355 spider. Only 880 miles on this example, so it is tight and new...not sure how it will fare with additional miles under it. Gearing is tall, as it was loafing at 2500 rpm at 55 mph in 4 th gear! Redline is 6500 rpm. Did not get a chance to really stab the brakes, but they seemed strong, and powerful from what I experienced.

A few negatives...seats are HARD...like sitting on a phone book. Back rest and side bolstering was good. Switch gear and gauges were good..but seemed to be missing an oil temp gauge...instead it had a boost, voltage, water temp and oil pressure gauges. Doors really need to swing all the way open to get in or out...as the top of the door curves inward toward you, so if the door is not opened all the way, you will hit your noggin' on it.

Styling is a personal preference I guess, but I really find the GT to be pleasing to the eye. Red with white stripe is very striking. Oh and the "bling factor"....yes this car gets more attention than my 355 spider...but after all, 355's are all over the place...how often do you see a Ford GT? Guys were giving thumbs up, chicks were following and waving.

Final analysis...as the owner and I agreed, impressive "for a Ford"...but we still both prefer Ferraris! I mean come on...the look and sound of a Ferrari truly is intoxicating! It just shows that my 355 is not aging as gracefully as I would have hoped, and a 360 may be up on my list sooner than I thought! ;)

    Cheers!
    Dave

    Very good review, Dave.

The door problem can be remedied with the GTX1 conversion that gives the car a versatile removeable hardtop.

Hi honey, "Yes" and "Yes". ;)

I still love the Gallardo...but I think I will stay in the Ferrari camp for now...even if it is underpowered by comparison to these newer cars.

That second "yes" could get you in trouble. Why not jump to a 430?

think it might be my next car, to see the targa version go to www.gtx1.com lots of great options, carbon fiber hood, cool wheels they also have a seat mod that gives 2 more inches of head room.
