I like the signage. They are installing this right now. During the day, the letters are dark, during the night they light up. I haven't seen it at night yet, but during the day it works as intended. Image Unavailable, Please Login
First I went the "beaten path" - the library by mecanoo seems to have some problems with the grass-roof. Then I cruised around the whole campus and found your building accidentially - but I recognized it immediately. I said to my wife: "Hey, I know this one from ferrarichat..." There is some fine architecture round there, from the 1960's until today. Till.
We are trying a new concept for our website. We were tired with the standard static website. No matter how sophisticated a website is, if feels continuously out of date. We chose to make it a FerrariChat-like format, but I have no idea if it will work. Twitter and Blogs are text based, and we wanted something image based (Architects don't read, they only look at pictures). Maybe it will just end up as a giant (but illustrated) monologue. We'll see. www.rietveldarchitects (dot) com
I was trying to avoid spamming with a direct link. However, it now came out as a link that does not work. This is the direct link: www.rietveldarchitects.com
Rijk, I'm having a real hard time with this "Architects Only" thread. Can those of us who pay the bills chime in? Dale
Dale, I'm trying hard not to waste your time.... You are too busy to pay those bills. I haven't paid a bill in years.
Rijk, you're right. I really shouldn't be wasting so much time here on FChat, but I do need a certain amount of right brain time. Frankly, my bone to pick is not with working guys like you, but with the academics who decide what is cool and what is not. I particularly dislike the post-WWII socialist/modern genre. I even dislike the post-modern response. As an example, may I cite the Philip Johnson building for the University of Houston School of Architecture? Ghastly is the nicest word I can think of. Butt ugly is more appropriate. So maybe a thread discussed design trends would be appropriate? Dale Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would have never guessed that that is a Philip Johnson. Boy, did he lose it when he got older. Architectural dementia is a serious disease without a cure. This is even uglier than the AT&T building on Madison Avenue.
Take away the classic-revival widow's walk, and it's a nice, clean building. I have to agree about Johnson. What was called "Momentum Place" (mega higrise bank bldg) when it was built 20+ years ago here in Dallas is marginal, at best.
Blowing coffee all over my keyboard! You sir, are the king of one liners. Do you mind if I steal this from you? You have no idea how much this quote rings true with me. Dale
Very cool, I hope this will work, but even if it ends up as a monologue: Visitors get a good impression on how you work and - whats more important - who you are. A possible client needs to get to know about the person he will deal with. I like this concept. Till p.s.: this Johnson-thing up there: ugly +3
