    Ernie, No Doubt and FatBillybob,

I am repacking my flyhweel, but struggling to find information on the following:

    1) What torque settings should the 6 bolts that hold the clutch pack to the flywheel be tightened to? I have read 24.6 Nm on the WSM. I don't have a tool that can be set that precisely, and 25 Nm is pretty much the bottom of the scale on my torque wrench - it feels quite light! I tried to tighten one to a "tight feel" and broke the bolt...

    2) What torque setting should the 6 bolts holding the flywheel halves be tightened to? No reference in the WSM

    3) What torque setting should the big ring nut holding the flywheel to the pumpkinn be set to?

    4) any tips on the removal of the above with hand tools would be appreciated - I have the Hill Engineering adapter, but it will not budge...

    5) I could only find a color band on the clutch pack (spring, intermediate disc and the holding ring), but not on the flywheel. Is there none or how do I make sure the whole assembly is matched in the balancing?

    6) When re-greasing, shall I fill the spring spaces up first (I only got 180 Grams of the grease when I ordered it)...

    Thanks guys, in advance,

    Marco

I lost your number, mine is zero777zero threeseventhree zero29 (to avoid number bots)... Be very happy to catch up. Tracked the Mondial with the modified 348 gearbox - was sooooo good. The suspension set up is just about perfect according to Colin McCrae!

    Hey Marco.

Paul has a write up on his website that should help. http://www.myferrari.page.tl/Home.htm

As for the actual torque specs, I'll have to look those up and get back to you.

I tightened mine right up in a star pattern (as when tightening wheel lug nuts). I'm very surprised you had a bolt break - something doesn't sound right there.

Use an impact gun. The ring nut usually has some threadlock on it and hand tools make it difficult, compounded by the fact you have to figure out how to keep the flywheel from rotating.

I thought the spec had been revised to 230 grams? I originally used 180 and it wasn't near enough (still had a rattling sound coming from the flywheel) - I used somewhere around 240-250 grams and it eliminated the rattle.

Has any one experimented more with the solid aluminium flywheel. I installed one on my Porsche 944 (along with a solid disk plate). The improved shifting speed and free reving was a big improvement.
I was thinking of converiting my 348 to a lighter solid flywheel over the winter.

Okay here is what I found.

    My manual says:

    --------------------------------------------------
-Tighten the 6 pressure plate nuts to a torque of 24.6 Nm (18.14 lb/ft)
    --------------------------------------------------

Then the next torque reference says:

    --------------------------------------------------
-Fit the assembly on the flywheel and tighten the 6 bolts to a torque of 13 Nm (9.58 lb.ft). Make sure that the part with a stroke color (maximum imbalance) is diametrically opposite to the maximum imbalance mark on the flywheel

-Fit the ring gear on the pressure plate and tighten the 3 bolts to a torque of 13 Nm (9.58 lb/ft)
    --------------------------------------------------

As for the rest of the stuff the manual is worthless. Ferrari doesn't want you rebuilding the flywheels, they want to selling you new ones at stupid prices.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help. I really haven't had to dive into the flywheel yet because the new one I bought, and had installed, years ago is still holding up.
