Our evening news channel flashed an event where a seaplane had "landed hard and flipped in Lake Washington." Then they showed a quick shot of it on its back in the water. It appeared to be a Cessna 185 amphib. They said that there would be an investigation into why it "crashed". It would be the shortest investigation in history if I was doing it because the wheels were sticking "up" out of the floats.

Bob- That does add a bit of drag in the water.

I think that they found that out yesterday. I can count tree other times that this has happened on Lake Washington. There was a story at Sarasota Airport when I was working there about a guy that killed himself in a SeaBee from LG problems. He landed wheels up on the runway after practicing water landings in the bay. Got the airplane repaired and went out to practice water landings but this time remembered to lower the landing gear.

A few years ago I flew cross-country with a friend in his Lake Buccaneer. Every time we got onto final, he was mumbling "wet or dry?...wet or dry...". We survived them all.:)

I saw the news too - and I too flipped - but once I did that, it looked like a perfectly normal landing

A good landing is one you can swim away from.
