Hello everyone. Need help in making decision on buying first ferrari. It's a 2095 f430 black in black spider. Has about 5000 miles and been dealer serviced. The car is independently owned, and seems to be in great condition. Has CCb, hi fi sound, f1 tranny, badges. MSRP was about 228k and are asking about 140k. Need some assistance with following:
    1. What do you think fair price is for car?
    2. Is PPI a must?
    3. Who pays for PPI?
    4. What major issues should have been addressed with vehicle due to age and model year?
    5. Is ferrari power cube or normal still available for this model year and if so what is approximate cost? Is it worth it?
    6. I read 05-06 manifolds were an issue, is that the case?
    7. How often should oil be changed and how many oil changes should have been done by now?
    8. What major services need to be shown as completed?

Sorry for all the questions, just need some advice for decision making. Thanks
    Ruben

    I'll answer what I can

    1. I don't know
    2. in my opinion, no
    3. the buyer
    4. none
    5. probably not but ask a dealer
    6. yes, they will fail. With only 5K on it, this car likely has the originals. The warranty is for eight years--check the in service date
    7. once a year
    8. there are no "major" services on 430s, just annual services for fluids, filters and inspections

    Dave

I appreciate it very much. Just trying to make sure I don't get in over my head with services and major expenses on this car. Once again I appreciate it very much.

    Hey Iceman,

I'm also in the market, and will do my best to answer. Welcome to FChat.

Dave answered really well, so take this as a little more explanatory:

    1. Fair price? Don't know - not enough info.
    2. PPI is subjective, and relates to your risk tolerance. Many people say it's essential, many also say it is not. Would you be comfortable buying a car at this level (and price) without a TECHNICAL evaluation? If you're not comfortable, then get a PPI. If you are comfortable, a PPI may not be essential, but will probably give you some information you can't see from pictures, visual inspection by yourself, or even a personal test drive. Also, if it's from a reputable dealer (or even a Ferrari dealer), the risk usually tends to be lower, but there is always some risk. If it's a private seller, the risk may be greater. It's all about risk.
    3. Typically, the BUYER pays for the PPI. Also consider getting a compression/leak down test conducted on the subject vehicle.
    4. Major issues are pretty much the headers. Check out the F430 buyer's guide from Forza Magazine.
    5. Don't know about Power Cube warranty.
    6. Manifolds: Perhaps the seller knows about the headers - start asking there.
    7. Conduct a search for "Annual F430 Service" and you should get a good feel for what's required. Typically, it's mostly a fluid flush/change, and can often be completed by any competent independent mechanic with some experience, not necessarily a Ferrari service center.
    8. No "major" services for the F430, since the cams have chains and not belts. Major stuff happens when you need a clutch replacement or some work on the suspension.

Hope this helps. Good luck, and happy hunting! Take your TIME, this isn't a process to be rushed. IMHO, learn as much about the cars as you can before you put any money down!

idrivem5 - thank you very much for the information. I know most of these answers are available on the forum, but I'm not great at searching on forums since this is new to me.

Is there an online service such as KBB.com for pricing on ferraris?
Being that this is my first possible Ferrari, and my local mechanic services them, I would feel more comfortable obtaining all the info upfront and hoping that it will help make a better decision on the car. So I do think I'll ask for the PPI. I will certainly request compression/leakdown test. The car was serviced in Scottsdale Ferrari, so I will request service records there.
I read the forza buyers guide, and great info there. Very much appreciated.
If I do decide to go ahead with the purchase, I'll send you all of the specifics prior to, to get your opinions.

Once again, thank you very much. I appreciate all the advice.

I went through the same process a few weeks ago and ended up buying an '06 blu pozzi/tan coupe with 6,500 miles from an independent dealer in CA. I had a PPI done at FoSD (they called it a safety inspection as they said only a licensed body shop in CA can opine on paint/bodywork issues). The service manager walked through the car with me while it was on the lift. He could not have been nicer or more informative. He also gave me a copy of all of the service records since they sold and serviced the car. The records showed that the headers and exhaust brackets had both been replaced. These are very common problems, at least in '05-'06.

The PPI and chat with the service manager made all the difference to me in feeling comfortable buying a car 3k miles from home.

I have only had the car licensed in VA for a few days, but I am loving it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    David

I located a mechanic that only does high end PPI's, but my question is, I read that Ferrari power cube or normal isn't available. There service director at the local ferrari dealership says that most if not all extended warranties are no good. I beg to differ since my Mercedes G550 has third party extended and its saved me tons of money. that being said, I've called Lasalle, and they are taking their sweet time to get back to me. Is there any extended warranty that any of you guys may be familiar that is great as far as comprehensiveness of coverage and isn't totally ridiculously expensive.

    Once again, thank you.

Everyone has their opinions... here's mine:

    1. $140 isn't bad. I recently sold my '07 F430 coupe for $155K. Had similar miles.
    2. I believe very much in a PPI. There are so many issues you can't know about from just driving it and listening. If you don't get one and buy the car and there are problems, you'll hate yourself. Getting a PPI saved me from myself on my first Ferrari buying experience. It found a host of problems on a car I was ready to buy.
    3. You pay for the PPI and any related transportation costs of getting the car to the PPI service provider. Again... well worth the money.
    4. Issues for F430... exhaust tips, exhaust brackets and headers. Any dealer can tell you if all the campaigns have been taken care of.
    5. Likely not, but it's worth asking. While some people consider these extended warranties a waste of money, I sleep better at night knowing that is something goes wrong, I have a warranty to cover it.
    6. Ferrari have been actively replacing these when they show signs of wear.
    7. Again... personal opinion is all fluids flushed once/year regardless of mileage. There are others on the forum who think this is too frequent and a waste of money.
    8. None... just the regular fluid service and make sure all the campaigns are taken care of.

    Good luck...

    FC2 - Thanks very much.

Just trying to locate a good extended warranty company to get a quote. Unfortunately I don't know which company is good or bad. Any thoughts?

5k miles i wouldn't worry about anything really, change the oil and check the manifolds if they have been replaced otherwise set side a few $$$ to replace.

sounds like a real nice car

I purchased a 2007 F430 in 2009 and have put 12,000 miles on it. The warning light for the tire pressure monitoring system needed to be reset. Otherwise in the three years I have owned it, it has been sheer bliss!!!!! This is the best car I have ever owned by far!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry guys for the delay. So here's the MSRP and options list on the car. I was mistaken initially on it having CCB. I negotiated the car down to 132k. I'm curious to know your thoughts if you think the car is worth the 132k and if you think I should try to locate a more optioned car. Please give me your feedback as seller wants to move forward with the deal pending PPI. I appreciate the feedback once again.

As an fyi, there is another red/beige more options and CCB with 11k mileage for 140k.

here's a link to the car. Any thoughts appreciated and also anyone have dealings with CNC motors?? Reputable?

Would you agree traditional ferrari colors yellow, black, red hold better value when it comes time to resell?

458 italias - i spoke with CNC and you're correct the car was sold a couple of weeks ago. They did tell me about teh 2006 430 red/tan. what do you think of that one? The salesperson says its cleaner than the 2005 just doesn't have CCB. I'm not crazy about the mileage since for that kind of money, you can get sub 10k car.
I'd like to know what you think.

    Thanks
