Hello all, this is my first post and I am new to this forum. I am very fortunate to be looking at buying at 488 spider as my first supercar - I just love the look (I want an all black one). I absolutely love cars - and I daily an RS6 performance right now. Owned an M3 CS as well.

With all that being said, is there anything I should be looking at for when it comes to the 488? I've read that maybe look for something around 10k miles, obviously with a good history. I am looking to purchase from a dealer. Are there any other threads you can point in my direction as well? I am not too familiar with Ferrari, but I love the brand and want to learn as much as I can and be a good steward of the car as well.

I would greatly appreciate any insight or advice. And I am super excited to be joining the ownership group - hopefully soon!

    Thank you

    1. See the condition of the car in person
    • Look for sticky buttons
    • Have CCM rotors weighted for wear
    • measure paint for any re-painting done
    • check tire dates - I found most on original tires were past the usual lifespan
    2. Do a PPI at a place of your own choice, even if buying from a dealer (trust me!)
    • PPI should/will look for any leaks at the engine, shocks, transmission, axles etc.
    • Test drive the car to check how the transmission shifts and engine runs.

    3. If you want a Ferrari extended warranty be sure you buy a oem stock car, no mods on the car or previously on the car.

    Hello - welcome.

Make sure you get one with the seats that you want. It comes with powered adjustable seats, many cars add carbon fiber sport seats. The comfort of both seems to be a personal choice, but pick the one that fits you best. The seat coverings are a personal choice as well.

I really enjoyed my 488 spider. A thrill to drive and rewarding in many ways. I also agree with mdrums comments.

    Just my $0.0001:

    1. Unless you're buying from a Ferrari dealership, I would say that any dealership might be less trustworthy than buying it private party from a Ferrari enthusiast. I've talked to sales folks at luxury dealerships (e.g. McLaren/Lambo/etc) who were selling used Ferraris that didn't know anything about the car's history and underreported the issues.
    2. Absolutely agree with the PPI as per @mdrums; I would add that if you do the PPI at a Ferrari dealership they can at that time sell you a warranty if that's your thing. When I bought mine, I spoke w/ the service manager who did the PPI and hearing him tell me that the car is in great shape was very reassuring.
    3. I would recommend spending a lot of time looking at used 488 ads and seeing different cars and what options they have to get a sense of what you "must" have. To me that's more important than things like sticky buttons etc but that personal preference. I think we all find out afterwards which options we wish we had and which are meh and made less difference than we thought.
    4. Listen to your gut and if you don't trust the seller, walk away.

Both seem to be nice.... I like the interior of the Lauderdale car better, both cars have the carbon steering wheel but the Lauderdale car has the carbon across the dash and center bridge to tie it all in.....and I am not going to get into it on an open public forum but I will warn you to NOT trust the Central Florida dealership.

My old black on black 488 Spider is still for sale at Ferrari Tampa. I have no affiliation with the car anymore. It was a great car with zero issues. Lmk if I can be of help as I owned it about 3 years.
