I have previously asked this thread be posted as a sticky to the top of the 206/246 section to help owners but the mods have refused. Anyone else feel the same? BTW, the Dino section has no stickys at all.
Engine firewall PS - check this video out from last summer when Jack had a Dino issue and we brought it to my house fix a few things. Upon looking closer we found a wonderful momento from his winning drive on the Cannonball Run 1975. Enjoy Jack May discovers a momento from the CannonBall Run he won - YouTube . Awesome, have the poster on my office wall. Bored my kids with the 100th telling of story, now I can do the same with the video and try to indoctrinate the grandkids!
I've always admired Jack May and his co-pilot, Rick Cline, for their terrific escapade in 1975. At the time I was living in Redondo Beach, CA, about 1.5 miles from the Portofino Inn where the Cannonball ended . . . and I didn't even know it was happening. The next day it was well covered in the L.A. Times. I still have the article. At the time, I owned my first Dino, S/N 03800. Fast forward 15 years, 1990, and I'm living in Herndon, VA (near D.C.), after retiring from 32 years in the USAF and I own S/N 08118 (still do!). The local region of the Ferrari Club of America--the Mid-Atlantic Region (MAR)--is trying to come-up with a clever theme for the 1991 FCA Annual Meet to be held in the greater Washington D.C. area. I suggest, "Let's honor the three Ferraris that have won the Cannonball Rally!" The idea was approved and the rest is history. Part of that history is a fabulous poster my talented wife did for the event honoring Jack and Rick and the other winners. I've attached the two MOCK-UP SKETCHES (THEY ARE ROUGH, ORIGINAL ART WORK, NOT THE FINISHED POSTER) she proposed to the MAR leadership. They chose the one with the palm trees and N.Y.C. profiles. I liked the one with the names and times below each car. In any case, ENJOY! It was a great event. We invited all the winning drivers and navigators to the event, but only the Daytona and Brock Yates were able to join us. Great post, superb artwork but perhaps add it to the Jack May Cannon Ball Run Thread rather than here so more people mighht find it when searching? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/206-246/126956-1975-canon-ball-run-winner-2.html
Thanks for the suggestion, Scott. It's done. Btw, in that thread you mention and I can see the pix of the 330 Summer/Winter control valve in Jack's car. I've got one of those valves in stock and want to do that mod. For years I've been using wooden plugs in the hoses at the stock control valve year 'round. Do you recommend putting the 330 valve in the hose just as it goes into the stock Dino control valve, as is pictured (I think)? I'd like to have it hidden but not inside the batchboard near the brake fluid reservoirs. Any other options? Bill
On cross bar between trunk and engine # 1760 is body / build Anyone know what s361 is? Image Unavailable, Please Login
These truly were hand made cars. The Dino is the last of an era where the parts were numbered during fabrication and setup because they were not interchangeable. I've heard of modern day experiences during repairs where a door from a donor car does fit another Dino.
Dino 05702 has PF/Scaglietti body number 2024 and I found another instance of this number in grease pencil on the interior of the A-pillar fiberglas. This is directly behind where the interior rear view mirror mounts. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had the same tan tape on my voltage regulator for #06618. I had always thought it was something added later by some mechanic, but very interesting to see this was from the factory. And sure enough it has my body number (2099) written on it!! I never noticed that. It makes sense the factory would put some number on all the various components that were assembled or had major work done to them off of a specific chassis. It is likely the chassis number wasn't assigned until the very last step, so the body number was the only identifying number during production. The production number on the voltage regulator tape was likely to identify the entire fuse/relay assembly board by the worker who assembled it somewhere else in the factory before it was brought to the car to be installed. Similar logic applies to pieces such as carpets, unique trim pieces custom fit to the chassis, etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I suppose the number on the voltage regulator is there because the wiring harness would be specific to the car and those were built complete with the fuse/relay panel off of the car. A very interesting detail and cool piece of originality.
