http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/sport/formel_1/hxcms_article_507202_13987.hbs Max Mosley and the manufacturers agreed on using hybrid engines from the 2010 season on. Estimated numbers: 675hp from a V8 engine, additional 80hp from brake energy recovering, being applied by a button on the steering wheel. Bernie Ecclestone doesn't seem to like the agreement, he stated that Formula 1 engines were already 'green enough', according to their power/fuel consumption ratio: "Maybe FIA wants to make people believe we're doing something for the environment"
No Bernie, just put on a pretense that you actually give a d**n. That's close enough. F1 is a good (or best) place to develop these technologies. I DO feel sorry for the "little guy" teams with one more budget to handle. Spec out the aero design to help in drafting as an offset.
I'm organizing an assassination plot for Mosley. If you're interested in helping out, PM me. We need to save the sport!
Here in Illinois, we have a thing called motorized bar stool racing. I think I'm going to start following that circuit.
Time for Formula Libre 1.5 litre, no limitations on design, XX litres of fuel, no refueling, machine must fit in a box of XYZ dimensions including all tires and wings. Car must have have a gated shifter, foot clutch and no driver-assistance traction aids.
Hybrid technology is actually bad for the environment and should be abandoned, not developed. It certainly has no place in racing. F1 has been talking about cost saving, 2 race engine, 4 race trans, spec ecu then they want the teams to develop want hybrids???? Crazy.
Good question. Then again the agreement might be meaningless. There have been other agreements regarding engines etc in the past and when push came to shove the agreement got nixed again. Many things can happen over the next few years. Including Max' retirement. Can't come too soon. Lunatic.
Here is the problem IMO. Current FIA rules and proposed FIA rules are still driving all engine manufacturers in the same direction which may or may not be a solution that major manufacturers want to go. ie: "you will develop a 2.4 lit. V8"....or "you will develop a 675 hp V8 with 80 Hp energy recovery". Instead they might allow more freedom in developing the powerplant. F1 has had in its past I4, I6, V6, V8, V12, V16, H16, turbos, superchargers, but always a piston driven engine. Pistons are great, but have certain limitations which limit HP production for a given fuel which the FIA has used to control development (19000 rpm limit). Is there a better way to produce power and could FIA rules have been written to allow the development of other technologies?
EU said all cars should have average CO2 of 160 g/ km. by 2012. They then realized that it was quite impossible for all cars except the tiny citycars so they are re-evaluating the requirement. I hope they get it over at F1 as well. Mercedes once predicted fuel cell cars or cars running on alternative bio-fuel would be running on the streets by 2004. If this goes through all we hear on the first few hundred yards from the start line is bzzzzzzzzzzzzz???? Isn't that the noise Prius makes before the petrol (or diesel, whatever) kicks in? Edit: When I was in Hockenheim GP last year the best experience of the whole race was the take off!!! I don't care if a el. car smoke a Veyron in a straight line. Electric = No soul...
they should change the name from F1 to the Prius Cup. We still have the NAStyCAR Truck series. Hang in there race fans.
I'm in, but it has to be both Max and Bernie. I wouldn't mind including all the members of the Bush administration too....
