I have the Capristo X-pipe and exhaust. Sounds amazing! Can't comment on what the x-pipe alone with standard exhaust would be like. Probably not much of a difference I'd imagine. It's supposed to produce an F1 type wail at high revs with Capristo's exhaust. :)

I just had my FF up on the rack--- the location where the x pipe would go already has an efficient H pipe (no resonators). Based on that view and my techs knowledge I dont think the X-pipe alone would do anything (negligible at best) soundwise.

The best bet is to swap the cans.

Curious. How much are F dealers charging to do capristo/novitec exhaust work? I've been eyeing this upgrade but not if the dealership is going to bend me over. Don't trust any other local shops to do the work either.

Did you tune just the Manettino settings or also the full ECU?

There are no secondary cats in the factory "x pipe". It is just a H pipe (ie 2 plain tubes connected in the middle). For FF, swapping the X H or whatever central pipe will make negligible difference sound and/or power wise. Swapping the cats to 200 cell will make a difference, and swapping the muffler boxes will also help, although with the valves open its nearly (but not quite) straight through anyway. Biggest delta will be from the cats and the muffler cans will add a bit.

In your opinion, would there be a big difference if one was to only replace the rear boxes and not change the cats or swap H for and X pipe?

Depending on rear muffler manufacturer, you would certainly get some increase in noise. It would be noticeable. Personally I wouldn't reconnect the valves on the replacement muffler, but I prefer it LOUD all of the time.

Entirely my subjective opinion, and I have seen no proper comparison tests, any increase in power from a muffler change would be negligible.

For the x h pipe swap, having done it, I wouldn't bother again. It made no difference as far as I could tell re power or noise. It was a bit lighter and looked prettier (not that you can ever see it again one installed).

Most increase in noise came from the cats, but they are not a simple install.

Thanks a lot. I have capristos on my F12 and love them - keep them open all the time. I'm taking delivery of an FF this coming week and can't decide whether or not to put capristos on it as it will be a daily driver, wife and new born (soon) as regular passengers.

I got the full ECU tune and I specified that I wanted valves always open with manetinno in sport. if you don't specify the valves just open quicker in sport. So my comfort setting is oem and obviously very driveable, u don't even know the car has an exhaust until you heavy throttle it. then in sport the valves are always open.

Thanks for the information. I would certainly want it always open in sport mode. What do you feel about the tune? What have you noticed performance wise?

When I installed the Novitec mufflers, I opted to keep the factory software control on the valves. I usually drive the car in Sport over long distances and prefer the valves closed for cruising. However they will open in Sport at about 2500 RPM which translates to about 85MPH in 7th.

I have sometimes wondered how much difference you can actually perceive in these high hp cars. I know that I could easily tell 55 hp difference out of 620 in my old BMW X5M. The Dinan software that turned up the boost added this much hp, and occasionally the dealer would accidentally uninstall it when I brought it in for service. I would take car out and could tell right away, bring it back, and they would reinstall it. So I imagine 30 hp would be on the edge but perceivable.

The X5M more than the 55 hp I'm sure you were feeling the 100 + lbs of torque in the midrange. We won't see anything like that in an NA motor.
