Hey guys, I have found a car in the spec and price range I am looking for. It feels like a decent deal but not a “screaming good deal”. I am probably over analyzing it but I am not sure. Basically I can buy the car for the same price it sold for in mid 2021. My only hang up on the price is that asset prices were inflated in 2021 and early 2022, and values really should be lower than they are now. It seems like in the last 6-9 months that values have started to creep up and inventory has tightened. BAT prices are also stronger. I am not buying it as an investment (cash yields 5%, this is probably -5% so a net yield of -10%). But at the same time I am curious for your thoughts if you’ve been watching the market longer than the last 2-3 years like I have been. In the end I am going to put two car seats in the back and drive this thing, so maybe it doesn’t matter. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Although car prices were inflated in 2021, the FF didn’t get caught up in the mania (at least it didn’t this side of the pond). So while things like 458s and 911s have come down, I don’t think that FFs have. And general inflation has gently pushed prices back up again. In real terms, the FF you’re looking at is cheaper today than it was in 2021. The best guide to how well you will or won’t do financially is probably based on scarcity. I’ve noticed that FF and F12 availability on the used market is drying up. Here in Europe there are 49 FFs for sale and 121 Lussos. 64 F12s and 295 812s. If you’ve found one you like then buy it as you’ll be wasting time waiting for the next one to come along and there’s no guarantee that it will be any cheaper. And what you’ve lost in the meantime is the precious opportunity to take your kids out in the car with you. You can’t put a price on memories and that’s what the FF will give you in spades.
sounds advice. you will not regret the purchase. the FF flaws are well know and treatable these days!
I second what ANOpax wrote. It sounds like this will be a keeper for you, so what if you spend $5K or 10K more than you should have spent. Spread over 5+ years it's a mere pittance! I would just add, do your due diligence. Find an expert to do a PPI for you. Nothing is a guarantee, but at least you will get a thorough appraisal of the car you want to buy.
Anyone trying to buy an FF (or really any modern-day Fezza) with concerns about feeding the horses shouldn't be bothered with trying to own one. You don't need it, and you certainly can't sincerely complain once you're into it. You don't buy the horses to starve them of attention. And if the horses you buy have a few little scratches or nicks or dings, then so be it. You will get a strange satisfaction from tending to it. Do not seek perfection, do not try to justify owning it. You either jump in, all in, or just go get another GT hatchback. Funny how in the other thread one of our readers posted his Mercedes Hatch Wagon as his 2nd/backup. I chose a 640iM GT Hatchback. Once you get into these things, you're in a different place. I happen to think the FF is worth buying at any price up to, and including it's original MSRP, and I wouldn't even sell it at that. I've had mine 3+ years and it hasn't had a single issue. All regularly maintained annually under warranty. Never needed it once. Dealer relationship is AAA+++. And about the PTU rebuild? -- so what for $10k? If you're worried about feeding the horses what it takes to keep them happy, then don't buy one. Most of us pay this much in homeowners insurance annually without a blink. I have no problem in extending my Factory Warranty annually and will do so until 2027 (year 15 of the 15-Year Power Warranty). And if when it runs out, I have to pay out of pocket? -- FINE. It's nothing but regular maintenance -- just like on your home. Don't buy a Ferrari and try to justify the cost/value. Just don't. Buy it and enjoy it and feed it whatever it needs and you'll both be better off.
Thanks. Yeah I have a good video of a ppi so I am not too worried about the condition. I also plan on inspecting it myself and going through it in detail. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Thanks yeah I agree. I’m not worried about the running cost. The ptu also doesn’t really scare me either. It’s not a huge deal financially but it’s not zero either. I get giving the car what it needs - my gated 360 needed pretty much everything done when I got it. This car is in much better shape - need something I can get in and drive for a few years and then tear down for a refresh in 2-3 years. I’ve owned mine for two years now and love it. Buy it, own it, drive it. Get to know the cat and sort it all out. My car had all the little stuff addresses and is well sorted. Would hate to lose it. Drive it, drive it, drive it. It makes them happy.
I am in the process of purchasing a new to me FF right now. This was one of my concerns too. I think since there are so few of these the price really depends on spec and mileage. Its quite a big range in price between clean examples and not. Ive been following and put offers in on a few different cars over the last 6-8 months and the nice ones go QUICK. Like a few days quick. But some you see on Autotrader and whatnot are just sitting. What I did was find one with the specs and mileage I wanted and jumped on it right away. I may have ended up paying an extra $5-10k more than I wanted but to find another one like that would have taken me months to a year probably. I really like the fourwheeltrader videos on youtube. He follows the market and has good insights. Here is the last one he did on Ferrari V12's:
Yeah I watch his videos from time to time. I read all the classified sites daily, so I am following the trends. I am somewhat resigning to paying more for it. There are a lot of them in the 130-135 range that are in decent shape. Some cars I see though and am just floored by the asking prices and condition. Like obvious damage to the vehicle and an eye-wateringly high price.
I just bought one in December which I am quite satisfied with. I wish I had jumped on the first one I saw that had everything that I wanted because not only did I end up paying more, I never saw that spec again. I rebuilt the PTU through Hollywood Mechanic earlier than anticipated (200 miles after purchase) but since I had already planned for it I am actually happy it’s out of the way. As for the DCT, which I’m surprised no one has brought up, my fingers are crossed. The dealer I purchased from, Luxury Auto Collection in Scottsdale were sketchy at best. Do not deal with them.
Yeah same feeling 1000%. Seems like there are a lot of sketchy people out there. Feels to me like once i ask a few questions people ghost me bc they are looking for a complete sucker. I was that idiot once… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Was that the black/tan one? I was looking at that one and almost bought it but they didnt offer what I was looking for trade. Ended up selling private party for significantly more.
The level of deception in the exotic car space is mind boggling. In this one case, the sales guy at Luxury insisted that Novitec was co-located in the Ferrari facility and was covered under factory warranty. Imagine the Germans and Italians building cars together (ok fine, Lamborghini). Luxury Auto Collection had an F12 with a “Novitec carbon package” that was actually NOT Novitec but a combo of Exotic Car Gear, DME and eBay. Even though the carbon was of good quality for the most part it certainly wasn’t the 85k of aftermarket they claimed. Scam-xotic car dealers probably deserves its own thread.
I got my 2016 just over a month ago. Had been at the dealership 140 or 160 days. Way over priced to me. Messaged them a low ball offer and forgot I had. Then late that day got email they would accept it. I had missed on a 2014 by 30min and I think the one I got for only $10k more was well worth it being 2 years newer, similar miles, and few more options.
Seemed like a fair price. I had my finger on the trigger but I really don’t like the brighter red interior. The darker Ferrari red is okay but the brighter one is too much for me. Oem rims were included so that part was no big deal imo. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
