Ferrari vs Lamborghini

Couldn't be more different inside or out. Having not driven them back to back, only the 296, my assumption is the 296 will be quicker and handle better. The 296 wins the power contest on paper as well. The Ferrari having a bumpy road mode is also a point to the 296, having the ability to have the drivetrain in a sporty mode while still having soft suspension is a nice quality-of-life thing.

But the 296 feels more understated, the Lamborghini screams look at me. Brash styling and a V10 that is undoubtedly louder than the 296. Styling is totally personal but I prefer the 296. Then again I couldn't be more biased, I've had a 296 GTS deposit in for 2 years

 

Two different cars.

The Technica literally is the end-of-the line last hurrah for the Huracan line of cars, chassis, engine, etc. Sort of the pinnacle of the Huracan (yes, the STO is more track focused, but the Huracan was never really a track focused super car to begin with).

The 296 on the other hand is the beginning of a new era kind of car. The start of a PHEV-mid engine line for Ferrari (along with the SF90).

What do you want? The sharpened knife edge of decades of engineering (Technica) or the brand new blade forged from the hot furnace (296)?

No right answer here.

But no wrong one either.

 

the huracan tecnica is the only one i have really liked the look of, and my tech tells me it is a great car. fwiw.
the 296gtb is very powerful, and probably faster around a track - if thats what you want.
no bad answer here.
on the other hand, you might actually save and/or make money on the tecnica since its the last NA V10 from Lambo.

 

I love Ferrari… But, the Huracan is something to experience. The V10 sound is just amazing, let alone you add an exhaust. You can always circle back to the 296 in a couple years. The interior on the Huracan is extremely nice and Audi really did a great job on this car.

Ferrari is a brain virus for me, while I look at Lamborghini with lots of big emotions too.
But Ferrari for me is a more focussed, committed brand while I see Lamborghini as more unstable. They made iconic, extreme, unmatchable cars like the Miura and the Countach, but in my mint the brand is just that. Would I love to own a Gallardo or a Countach? Yes, but only as my… 30th car on the side of 29 Ferraris!

Yet, I am not in love at all with the newest Ferrari designs and especially the 296, parts of which remind me the 250 LM and in general does not suggest any design harmony. Every bit of the 296 to me looks designed by a different hand, with some details connecting to the past while others making me struggle to find any sense, like the front light groups. To my eyes the 296 looks like a patchwork of many different cars, conveying a weak overall identity.
And the V6 for the moment to me feels like a cost reduction or provocative feature rather than the next memorable thing.

If you look at a Huracan instead - here in Bologna I was amazed to see a frozen one last month - you may like it or not but you are immediately struck by its coherence. Every bit of the car is talking to every other bit, there’s a spectacular design harmony.
Then you may still prefer the more rounded shapes of the 296 to the stealth edgy looks of the Huracan, but imo the Huracan is a much better designed car with a clear focus and a much stronger identity.
And then the V10 sound must be just fantastic!

In one word, I am a Ferrari person with a Ferrari heart, still I would certainly get a Huracan over a 296.
And then keep craving to set a Ferrari I like next to it some day.

Honestly everyone's thoughts will be different and vary based upon their individual tastes. If you can find a way to drive both or at least spend some time with them to get a feel, do so.

Yes but this way you ruin the craziness of the choice!
Most of the fun with these cars is to get them by knowing nothing and having big expectations. Then you use them believing you got the best jewel in the universe, bit then again sooner or later you happen to drive another one and… you fall in love with it.
By definition, anyone of us here will always desire somebody else’s car.
Only exception, maybe some F40 owners.

I disagree. I'm grateful I drove the 360 and the Gallardo before buying. I didn't like how the Gallardo drove. I wasn't nearly as interested in the 360 until I drove one either.

Anything before the Huracan (or before Audi), all Lamborghinis drove like bricks.

 

Lol I thought he was considering a Lamborghini!

 

I already have electric home appliances, don't need another toaster - So Huracan in that case....but take a look at an F8 and maybe Macca 750S

This is probably stupid to say but when I was looking over the Huracan, I saw Audi brand stampings on the car which really bothered me. I love the car but I felt like a poser if I bought it. So many less Lamborghini’s have been made over years than Ferrari’s but I always see them more than Ferrari’s for some reason.

 

I have a STO as well. I gotta say one thing. VW technology allows me not to put the car on battery tender at all. I love it. I see the car with italian passion with german build quality. So quite good!

 

there are more lambo huracans built than all other lambos ever built since the company was created.

however, that does not mean it is not a potentially better choice for the OP over the 296gtb.....
and at a nearly 40% cheaper price....to me its a no brainer.

 

I agree, I would still take a Huracan over a 296. I find the 296 bland and I think it will be similar to the 488 in the future which is known as the forgotten Ferrari. I just don’t feel any emotions when looking at it like when I see an F8 or 458.

 

I currently have an evo spider which is similar to the tecnica and my tecnica will be here late this year (I was one of the last allocations)

I also have a 296 GTS on order and have driven the gtb. Still have an f8 spider and just sold my pista

My take is

The Ferrari is definitely sharper, quicker and more refined. But my experience they have glitches especially the new tech ( I had a roma for a few weeks and literally handed it back after the 5th service visit). The Lambo is brash but really really fun. And loud. And angry. And the tecnica IMO is the most attractive huracan built

If I have to choose only one, it’s an F8 or 296 and I deal with the glitches. I loved the pista but it the f8 is better for what I need. But if you can swing having both, they are very difference experiences. And both really fun

For me, I’d rather have a 488 and the tecnica that just the 296 and it would be close to the same cost

Interesting topic: I was not impressed by the Huracan (Spider) experience wise (though it was perfect weather while driving through breathtaking Italian landscape)… compared to a Ferrari V12 (manual). Though it’s maybe not what the OP wants or wants to hear or is interested in: I would always prefer a manual Ferrari V12 to any Lambo…

but what’s great about this place is that we all value different things and have a different background and car experiences… so the best advice was already given: drive both of them at least a couple of hours… and let your heart speak.

 

What are you looking for?
Garage eye candy?
A daily driver?
Something for the track or touring?
Hopefully not an "investment".

Lots of great insight from current or former owners already exist in this thread, so my comment above is all you get

 

I have a 24 296 GTS and a 23 Huracan Steratto. Had a tecnica, Ultimae, Evo Spider, 488, SF90 and still have an 812. The 296 is an amazing car. Fast as hell and sounds really good. But it seems that every time I drive it I find myself trying to talk myself into keeping it. Then I hop into the Sterrato and I go Yes! this is what a supercar is supposed to feel like. Its slower and obviously doesn't handle as well being a rally car but I feel like a little kid driving it. the 812 is the same. Maybe I'm just an NA guy...

 

The most revered sports cars of all eternity have major flaws… either uncomfortable, obnoxiously loud, electrical problems, squirrelly handling, cars that want to kill you etc - think Porsche 930 and early 911s, British roadsters, Corvettes, F12,812 . The Sterrato is one of those cars- wild, not the fastest, loves to slide and is probably the best product Lambo has come up with in years- think F40 meets Porsche 959 and have a Lambo offspring. Perfect cars, on the other hand, although enjoyable(think Nevera, Battista, 296, SF90) are not necessarily as lovable as they are more akin to appliances. Super expensive yes and still desirable but it’s different for those cars. They are serious cars and I’d like to have each one at least for a while but are they forever cars? Each of us must decide for ourselves. The market is already starting to decide as the Nevera and its ilk are not meeting sales goals.
