I have a question that's been on my mind for a long time. How come Ferrari doesn't produce a V10 roadcar? Is it because of tradition? Because they don't feel like it?
People always said that they use their F1 cars as their R & D for their roadcars, so why not a V10?

    Just curious,
    ~Seth

I would think the F430 replacement will be a V10. For the time being Ferrari are getting enough HP out of their V8's to suffice.

I kinda hope the F430 replacement is a v-10 from a V-8. I think it would compete better with the Gallardo, and continue to set Ferrari apart from competitors in terms of the Vs.

Would a upgrade in the Vs cost more?

Of course it would, but I think it would be a great step forward for Ferrari in terms of having "An F1 car for the road."

    Agreed. Bring on the V12s!!!

Maybe a V10 in the next supercar? Or will they now stick to a V12 format for the supercars?

Here's a question to your question. From a marketing standpoint do you push three cars? Does the V10 replace the boy racer line (3x8/360) or the touring car line (TRs, 550s)? I suppose it replaces the 430 and competes with the Gallardo. But, then, how do you justify the 575? What's the diff. I think you end up selling fewer cars.

I don't want V8s to take over the V12s, but V10s would be awesome. Then the gallardo would REALLY have something to worry about (even though it already does: F430) And to the above poster, I have a hard time answering that. I guess it would take some of the 550/575 sales away...

Very unlikely a V10 in the next supercar. Will you pay 30% more than the Enzo to get less number of cylinders. Marketing will never allow it. From the technology point of view, V10 has proof that they are more efficient. Lighter weight of the engine and also lighter weight for structure and frames to support it. And they can give such power no different than the V12. I believe the next supercar generation's technology should be focusing on lightweight instead of big huge muscle engine like back in the old days...

I think we will see 4 litre V10's and the V12's will grow to 6.5 litre's.

They should make a 4-cylinder economy model.

    The F220.

And a 16-cylinder to compete with Bugatti.

And a 5-cylinder to compete with Volvo.

And an in block cammed 7 litre V8 to compete with Chevy.

    Oh! And jet engines!

    With Tubi afterburners!

A V10 Ferrari would be a "me too' car. Ferrari traditionally has gone out of it's way to not be a follower. When the Muira came out, everyone was disappointed that Ferrari didn't counter with a mid-engine, but came out with the Daytona instead. When the mid-engine hoopla died down, then the BB was announced. But then again, Enzo was a very proud man. Times are different now and money speaks the loudest. As long as there are year+ long waiting lists for the F430, Ferrari is unlikely to change the formula...

Max Mosley of the FIA sets the technical regulations, not Bernie Ecclestone who is the commercial rights holder. But you are correct, with F1 adopting a v8 standard, the only good reason for Ferrari to go to a v10 is no longer valid.
