5 or 6 Ferraris have apparently been stolen in the London area over the last few weeks, including an 812, Pista & 488. My insurers believe they are being shipped to Russia, where there is a shortage of new cars due to sanctions. The cars are probably being stolen to order, with the buyers accepting that they can’t be taken to main dealers for servicing/repairs. I understand that some insurers in the UK are now insisting that specialist trackers/immobilisers are fitted, because standard Ferrari security is being breached too easily - a video of one theft apparently shows a gang opening and driving off an F car without keys, in less than 30 seconds. The cars that have been stolen were mostly parked in supposedly secure underground car parks. The trackers were disabled within minutes of the thefts. My insurers tell me that standard “ghost” immobilisers don’t work very well with Ferrari electronics, and they have recommended that I install on my Pista a Metatrak Deadlock Pro system. I am going to speak to my dealer first, as I assume there might be warranty implications. Has anyone else heard about this?
In the UK, the trackers are monitored by Vodafone, and I am not aware of any changes to the newer models.
Scorpiontrack has a Ferrari Owners Club deal for a tracker, much less expensive than the vodafone subscription. Had one installed on my california last week. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I presume the buyers also accept not to resell their cars in the future as RHD would raise eyebrows. And forget about sending them back to the UK due to blacklisting.
Why would they steal RHD cars that aren't on the continent? Russia is LHD. Surely easier to steal from Germany/Czech etc and ship by road? Seems very stupid to me
It may seem stupid, but the cars are definitely being stolen, and I doubt they are staying in the UK. London probably has a higher concentration of Ferraris in underground car parks than any other city in Europe - so that will be the attraction.
I agree with some of the lhd and rhd comments. Doesn't make any sense. But definitely sucks no matter what.
My insurers are one of the larger companies in the UK specialising in supercar insurance. I believe they insured 3 of the cars that were stolen. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Another 812 gone in London apparently - seems very model specific. Security flaw from data breach incident - if so someone should be releasing that although they would battle not to one suspects. Anyone any further info?
This has recently been posted on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CtHvjVQpgVe/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng%3D%3D Appears to show a car thief driving through London - with a laptop on the passenger seat, which presumably blocks the GPS signal.
My GTC4 Lusso was stolen last month from Q-Park on Kinnerton Street, London SW1. The CCTV shows the thieves walking to the car park with a computer and driving out 3 minutes later. They simply raised the barrier manually. The Police have been useless and Q-Park have denied any responsibility. They even made it difficult to get the CCTV! Aviva my insurers have denied the claim, as they are arguing the tracker was not paid up, yet it was working at the time! In the meantime they have doubled my insurance. Several Ferrari have been stolen and there thefts are continuing, there was another Ferrari stolen in Mayfair this week. The fact is the thieves have the code for the keyless locks. London has become a dangerous city. I collect Ferrari's and have had to put them all into long term storage and am considering selling my collection. Very sad to have to live this was but we have a terrible Mayor and a useless, untrustworthy Police Force.
Sorry to hear about your Lusso, and the attitude of your insurers. They really will try to wriggle out of liability if they can. . I am still trying to find out if the thieves are breaching factory installed Navtrak systems, and if so, whether an after market immobiliser/tracker would be a better option.
Very sorry to hear this. My cars are stored not far away from there, although they are older cars and it seems the thieves are targeting newer Ferraris. Surely straightforward to prove your tracker was paid up to date? Shocking that the insurance are claiming otherwise. Police in London are not interested in investigating actual crime. I could start a thread here claiming I stole your car, providing clear evidence, and nobody would care or investigate. But if I posted a thought supporting one currently unfashionable side in today"s gender culture wars I would be tracked down and arrested, and I do not exaggerate, it has happened more than once. It starts with the academy training curriculum.
sounds like a bad faith lawsuit is coming against them. I’m in the US… but I’ve never seen a policy contingent on a tracking device for validity.
I've now had an after-market immobiliser and tracker fitted to my Pista. The installers said that the Navtrak systems that have been factory fitted to all new UK Ferraris (and maybe elsewhere) for several years, are now outdated. Apparently they rely on a radio frequency that can be easily jammed, whereas newer systems will switch to a Bluetooth connection, in the event of an attempt to jam. I wonder if Ferrari are taking notice of this sudden upturn in thefts??
I'm sure the cars are being parted out. They are worth more as parts than a whole car that nobody can bring in for service.
