I am trying to drive my 360 spyder on a somewhat daily basis which means parking it in shopping center, gym parking lots, etc. Are Ferraris a high risk car from a theft standpoint?

Man I could not bring myself to park a Ferrari in a shopping center parking lot. In NJ anyway, that's asking for trouble.

My insurance agent told me that Ferrari theft is very low. Too easy to spot and get caught. There just aren't many on the road.

Most common cars that are stolen are the ones that you see lots of every day and can get easily lost in the crowd.

That said, I sould park in a conspicuous place where it would be noticed if someone were trying to steal the car.

Of course, it depends on where you live. we don't have many chop shops in Aspen. New York and larger cities would be a real concern for me. If there is a chop shop close by that would be a risk.

Before you park Remember the movie: Gone in 60 Seconds

Here's the list of cars they stole-

I remember hearing years ago that zero Rolls Royces werre stolen. They just stood out too much.
The way I see it, if you only drive the car when there's a valet waiting at the other end, you won't be driving much.

Everytime I see a parking valet I think of the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

As a result, I try to park my own car whenever possible. :)

How many valet parkers could even start a Ferrari with an F1 transmission? I shudder to even think about it. :(

Now, go take on the day.

I worry less about theft than vandalism. People are jealous or if young, showing off, and even if innocent and just wanting to take a look, take too close a look with a key or other metal object banging against the car. Alsmost every time I park in "public" I find new fingerprints on the car. Parking lots are for cars you can forget about. Best

True. Its also really loud so its easy to hear and locate! :)

I also have read this somewhere that if your car is has a manual transmission, other theives are not even going to bother thinking about stealing it because they don't know how to drive stick. They might not even have a clue to start it.

Now, if you're still worried you might as well give LoJack a call! I have never tried it but it looks decent.

Perhaps you need to use a lockable car cover or move.

Nobody has ever messed with my Ferraris and have owned them for 6 years.

Got to keep the world safe for Skiing and sports cars.

I remember years ago when I had a 355, my dad was trying to tell me that my Ferrari might be at high risk for being stolen, etc. etc. Meanwhile, he's driving a 92 Honda Accord :) I explained to him his car was probably 20 times, if not 100 times, more prone to being stolen. He still probably doesn't believe me :)

Ferraris are safer, because it's a small community. If you steal a honda, you can chop it up and sell the parts all over LA, etc. If you steal a ferrari 360 and try to part it out, it will stand out like a sore thumb.

I think the big risk to a Ferrari is if some International ring grabbed it, stuck it in a shipping container and shipped it over to the Middle East or something. Then you'd be screwed. But short of that, I doubt you have to worry much.
