    Hi guys,

I recently bought a '79 308 GTB that needs a tune-up and some electrical work. I have neither the time, knowledge, tools or garage to do it! Can you recommend me a good shop in the Virginia Beach area where I can take the car?

    Thanks,
    Bernardo

Thanks - I know George and serviced my 911 turbo at Eurosport before - I like them a lot. The only trouble is that they are not to keen on Ferrari's and have had a lot of cars in. My car has been sitting on his shop for almost two weeks now and they have barely touched it!! I was kind of hoping an alternative would appear in F-Chat. Anyone heard about Abaccus Racing?

I know of Abbacus Racing. I hear they do excellent work, but I don't know if they're Ferrari calibre. I doubt they have worked on many Ferraris before, which may be an issue for you. However you could always give them a shot, they could turn out great for you.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for your input guys! I'm leaving it at Eurosport for now because George, nice guy that he is, offered to store the car for me while I'm away on vacation for two weeks. I should get it back early next week - I imagine they will do a good job...

Does FOW still do pickup and delivery?

    (From FOW's web page, http://www.fwash.com/service/ser-conv.asp)
No association, and I haven't tried them myself, yet; I've just heard they're "really good".

That's a good tip, but they quoted me a cost of picking up and delivering the car of $720 - not unreasonable, but still a pretty goos starting base for a minor service :) It might make sense for the real big ones...

    Thanks,
    Bernardo

Yes they do.. well they still did as of April. They have a nice little enclosed roll-back truck...

They delivered a car of mine using that truck...worked perfectly. That whole box basically rolls down to the street and the car can be lowered off. Excellent!

And, they did it at 9pm on a Sat night...in Central MD!

Now if they can only work on their costs. It's a mystery how an $200 oil change every 3500 miles costs up to $800. Being in the money biz I thought I was the wise one hahahahahahhahahah.

I think that if you look into the service performed for the $800 you will find that they do many more things included in the service. I know that my annual servicing of my F355 includes many things like changing brake fluid....so that what you get is a full servicing not just a LOF. They send me a letter every year describing what the servicing covers and the cost of the service. I wish Dodge Dealers would treat my Viper the same way.

The truck in the picture has hauled an Enzo (I saw them put it in it), so I would feel fairly confident that the money spent to pick up and deliver your car includes the extra care that a Ferrari deserves. The guys who work for FOW and haul the cars around, really do care about the customers car.

I like the guys at Eurosport. George is good. They know they're stuff there and weren't fumbling around when I brought my 360 F1 there. Really professional and fast. They found out the problem (check engine light caused by a sensor but normal), diagnosed it, and fixed it within about an hour. Cost - $80.
Seems like one of the few places around to take an F car unless you want to hike it all the way to FOW and the prices are much better than FOW.

I've had mixed experiences with Eurosport. They did a good job on my previous 911 turbo, always repairing it in a timely fashion and with decent rates. I've since bought a 308 GTB that needed some help with the lights and tune-up. The car has been in their shop for over 4 weeks and is still not ready. They have just not taken care of the car at all and let is sit in the back burner, stalling me every time I call. I am currently not happy with them and will try Abacus Racing next time my car needs ANYTHING.

Just thought I should post a summary of what ended up happening. Eurosport was able to fix the headlights and restore my column stalk that was defective, but could not (or would not) fix the breaking up at high rpms problem. They replaced idle jets and tried to tune the car, but said the distributors were fine - after almost 4 weeks!! After I picked up the car, it still ran terribly above 5k rpms.

So, I took it to Abacus Racing. They know these cars and have a bunch of old english cars sitting around (Jag E-types, Astons, Rolls) and even a 308 as well. They picked up on the problem quickly (distributors), and had a machine that was able to correct the points. The car was later dyno'd and turned up close to 200 hp at the wheels, which is about correct for a '79 308. They were quick (three days) and the car runs better than it ever has. It still needs new distributor caps and larger main jets (it is running lean at high rpms 7k+), which I will go back next week to have done. I would recommend Abacus over Eurosport for older Ferrari's in a heart beat.
