I have the opportunity to purchase a brand new Roma as a first-time Ferrari buyer.

What are the pros and cons of new vs. pre-owned?
What depreciation/loss should I anticipate on the new model vs. any preowned one on the market?

I appreciate everyones dialogue on this!

This is assuming you are ordering a new car, not buying a new one that is already on the ground.

Pros: Get exactly what you want, build goodwill with the dealer for future purchases

Cons: You have to wait and are at the mercy of any model year price increases, not that it should really matter at this level.

New vs. preowned they do not seem to depreciate that much (dealer prices) as some people do not want to wait to build their own or there may not be any allocations available -- the coupe, for example, is said to be not order-able anymore. However there seem to be a lot of very low mileage Romas out there and some dealerships probably have coupes available now that the Spider is coming.

It would be a brand new car that is on the ground. In this case, I am just wondering if the premium is worth the price since 2022 low-mile units are sitting around $250K and a 2023 is about $300K brand-new. There does not seem to be much data on 2023s to see how much of a loss there would be if I went new.

It would depend more, to me, on the color and options on the 2023, if it happens to be exactly as you would have specced it, or close. You will also get an extra year of free service (if you keep the car for 7 years ;)) and an extra year of warranty. If you are buying a preowned car I would negotiate for a 2-year factory warranty extension (bumper to bumper) which would be a very nice bonus in addition to the $50k.

I bought a brand new Roma that was on the ground for 300. I wanted my first ever Ferrari and build history. Now there are over 80 preowned cars available as low as 250. I’ll be trading the Roma soon. It was a very expensive six months.

  6. If you can find a pre owned Roma in the exact spec you want, then get pre owned.

And you should be able to given how many pre owned Romas are on the market.

There really is no need to buy a new Roma nowadays.

In the past, it was a dowry to get a V8 mid engine Ferrari. Not so anymore.

With that in mind, if you could do it all over again, would you still by a Roma? If so, would it be new or pre-owned?

I bought a new Roma for my first Ferrari. I wanted to spec my first one.
Be on the books with a new buy. The Roma will be traded in for the next Ferrari.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

Unless you want that "New Buying Experience"...

I'd go Cert. pre-owned '22 with less than 3,000 miles.
There are a lot of them out there. Tons of great colors and specs.

Roma is awesome and you wont be disappointed.
Good luck and keep the forum posted...

Not sure how accessible a factory Atelier session is, but that still remains one of the primary memories of my journey so far. Is that readily available for worldwide customers?

Buy a used one from the dealer , you’ll still score points with them and save 50-60 k easily. Most importantly you will have a car to drive today. Tomorrow’s not promised.

I agree with Kirk. If you buy now you will loose at least $50k. If you had one 3 years ago your would have made over $50k. I put my order in for a new Roma last March and it is still not in production. I told them to cancel the order because by the time it would be built I'd loose $50 k minimum. My spec was $255k.

Yeah, same here on that car but I have done better on the Portofino. We are getting $170k trade after 4 years of ownership. The car was $270k new and I think it has about 9k miles on it. My experience was the same as yours on the Cali T HS but I held it a year. Lost $70k on it. Held the 488 I traded the Cali T for, 2 years and lost $55k so not as bad. They offered me $350k for my 812 if I wanted to trade it against the new Portofino M and I paid $435k new back in Mar 2020.
