    Found this interesting article that suggested Ferrari go back to their traditional naming system. What do you guys think?

    Here's What Every Ferrari Should Be Named

    I don't necessarily agree with all the names but I do agree that the classic style names (technical number followed by an addendum) do sound better than their current names like GTC4Lusso and LaFerrari.

    anyways thought this was cool and wondered what everyone thought!

    I have always been bothered by this name anyway. From my 2 years of italian I

    Ferrari is a plural masculine of Ferraro

    And shouldn't the article be I (plural) or il (singular) not la.

    I wish Ferrari had stuck with the original naming convention where the number was the single cylinder size in CC's.

    This is how the 250 GTO, 275 GTB, and 365 GTB/4 were named.

    It would have been a good naming convention for the 8 cylinder cars too.

    So, here are some samples of what those names would be:
    360 Modena = 448 Modena (3586 cc's / 8)
    F430 = 538 GTB (4300 cc's / 8)
    458 Italia = 562 Italia (4499 cc's / 8)
    488 GTB = 488 GTB (3902 cc's / 8)
    456 GT = 456 GT (5474 cc's / 12)
    550 Maranello = 456 Maranello (5474 cc's / 12)
    575M Maranello = 479 Maranello (5748 / 12)
    FF = 522 FF (6262 cc's / 12)
    F12berlinetta = 522 Berlinetta (6262 cc's / 12)

    hahahah so true

    yeah names now don't really have meaning, even for German cars where a BMW 340I is a 3.0 or a C63 is a 4.0

    i guess the reason is they want newer models to have a higher number. a 562 Italia sounds like a higher model than a 488 gtb for example.

    LaFerrari still sounds terrible for me, but Enzo sounds cool. They should have a called it the F60 Enzo! haha

    I also wish they would stop re-using the historic model names.

    Ferrari has used the following model names more than once.
    - GTO
    - Mondial
    - California
    - TdF
    - Superamerica
    - Testarossa (Testa Rossa)
    - America
    - Barchetta
    - Lusso
    - MM

    Speciale is also on that list. Also, putting Barchetta on that list as a name they shouldn't have used more than once, makes little sense. It's like not wanting to use the name Berlinetta or Spider. It simply describes a type of car, rather than naming it.

    Where was the MM used more than once?

    Of course it's a matter of taste, but some of that sounds terrible. Besides, what's the point of naming the mid engine sports cars by cylinder displacement rather than overall size and number of cylinders? If you want to go classic, we're talking number of cylinders combined with liters just like the 458, 328, 308, 288, 208, 246 and 206. I think 408 would have been great for the 488.

    Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is commonly known as the Daytona. Apparently some people just can't take the time to learn all those numbers.

    So Ferrari is just appealing to the masses. Learning all those numbers is kind of offputting for some who may even be able to afford the car.

    Everybody knows what a 911 is...but few except true enthusiasts can wrap their brain about what the 991, 996 and 997 variants are.

    So apparently Ferrari think ltalia, California, FF, F12 are better than 458.

    The randomness in the naming system is not new though. 512BB became Testarossa, a variant on a legendary name, with no numbers or nothing, which then became 512TR losing the name not numbers style, and then F512M, to differentiate from 512M, another racing legend. There have been no name-not-number 12 cyl Ferraris in that line before or since. And that was 32 years ago and just one example. We buyers seems to accept it fine over time, however weird it sounds on release.
    Many of us were convinced the 599 would be called the 600. And why is the 458 named after a whole country? And only two models named after Ferrari's hometown?
    Being ornery is part of the tradition of the Ferrari naming department.

    I don't like Enzo either. I especially dislike LaFerrari. Really? Is that the best you can do? What about F70 instead?
