They bought a Toschi 500 F1 model for $1,500, which is a pretty high buy price for them, judging from a quick web search I did for the model. The 'expert' they brought in said it could be up to $3,500, which also seems high. But it was fun to see it on the show!

They should have called Morry at Collector Studio! He would have known what it's worth!

Pawn Stars is fake, so don't read too far into their "deal."

It was one of the two with an 8/22 air date, I don't recall which one. Both were new episodes last night.

And no bottle of cherries in the car (nor mention of it-nor have I seen any other of the auctioned models having the bottle either).

Thank you, I will look into it. The Toschi Ferrari 500 F2 models are unique among older models in their connection to Ferrari and the team drivers at the time. Pictured are Alberto Ascari and Gigi Villoresi with one of the models.

    Thanks, everyone for the information.

I did not know precisely what it was, but I was pretty sure that it was not an assembled model kit - as Rick was suggesting.

These are usually worth $2000-$2500 depending upon condition.
I love the show, but it is all staged....

It was a nice looking model and I think they ripped off the seller because I would pay much more than $1500 for it

I agree sometimes that show comes off as REALLY STAGED. They are horrible actors

Of course it is staged, that's television. It has to be presented that way. There is nothing fake about the sellers and what they bring in. That is all 100% real, it just has to be edited and somewhat scripted for television. They are not actors and they are not making movies.
As far as the Toschi model, it was a fair deal on both ends in my opinion. These guys have to make money on every deal that comes in, that's the nature of the business.

I'm not sure I agree that the sellers and their visits are not staged either. How is it Rick knows so much about every item on the spot?

Morry, you raise a very good point, one that my friends and I have noted many times. And, having worked in television many years ago, I can say without any doubt that few things change; it's just the same Sh#@%*&.... different day.

they are definitely all staged, definitely! everything on TV is, those shows in particular, the information they seem to know so readily being likely scripted by the production research assistants, but then they must need some degree of product knowledge to operate the pawn store

It's been stated on some reality tv sites that the show is fake in that people waiting in line for the store are given items by the producers to "sell". No idea if that's true or not.

I have heard that on 'storage wars' there was some evidence that they have planted unique/valuable items in some of these abandoned storage lockers the cast bids on. Haven't heard it about this show but it does look a little disney'd up for a pawn shop

Quite simple. They choose which items get aired for television. Then they look up the item well before filming so they have the knowledge to discuss on it and that's it. Keep in mind it's a pawn shop afterall, so 90% of what comes in is jewelry. They have to hand pick what gets aired for audience appeal, hence the "stage" part. I have done business with Rick, he is just like any other guy but because of the "fame" there will always be a few haters out there. Not to worry, his shop has a good line out the door every time I go in. They have marketed the show so well I am sure their revenue is the best amongst all pawn shops on the strip.
Unlike "Storage Wars" which airs on another network, nothing gets planted on the show, they don't need to.

I'm a fan of the show and certainly not a 'hater', I was only questioning how one person can have such a broad range of knowledge - unrehearsed. I know cars and car memorabilia inside out, although there are still many facets I am learning. But how could I also know everything about 18th century guns, presidential stamps, rock and roll event posters, vintage toasters, etc. etc. When you watch Antiques Roadshow they have specialists for the various areas of collectibles.

I'll add that none of these reality shows are just shot completely seat of the pants winging it. Not just raw footage strung together. Can't be done, and would make for a poor show.

Chumlee is the brains behind the outfit but he lets Rick and his ignorant/arrogant son carry all the liability, smarter than he looks and acts.

That's the "staging" part. What you don't see behind the scenes. Nobody anywhere would have this kind of knowledge. When something gets brought in, they look it up, then they film, that simple. Yes, it makes Rick look really smart but he is just a regular guy.

Did not see the show, but anyone know who or how it was determined not to be a reproduction? There are many out there being passed off as originals.

There's no need for you to be insulting. I don't see the need for you to have written that sentence. We all KNOW that it is television, but that's really not why it is called television. And of course there is so much more that could be written in detail, but what's the point? It's just a show..... good grief.
