Just shipped my Ferrari from California, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good Ferrari mechanic in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. I've been told to take it to The Collection in Coral Gables... Any advise would be appreciated. Regards, ERA470
Hey, welcome to Miami, it was smart to avoid Hurricane season The Collection is pricey & Ive heard negative stuff about their service I have a great guy betweeen FT L & Miami in Hollywood @ Bacchus Auto Repair. He has worked on my F40 & the Slutmobile 512M 954-981-5737 Tell him I sent you, ask for Murray or Ali
In Ft. Lauderdale, Tim Stanford Foreign Cars is a factory authorized Ferrari service mechanic. 954-764-7824 Also in Ft. Lauderdale, Steve Claassen's Tropical Sports Car Center specializes in high end exotics. 954-467-2142. BHW
I have only had excellent services performed by Tim. He is super honest and an all around great guy. His prices are very fair. He really knows his Ferrari's! Rich
Tim is the guy in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale that I have used. Also never heard a bad thing about him from other Ferrari drivers. BT
NGT Motorsport is a nondescript 2-warehouse space close to a ghetto area of Miami (Opa-Locka). They are very very experienced with exotics. Ramez (a German who deep down bleeds Porsche) owns and runs runs the operation with Sylvia and the mechanics. Many people in the Miami area with expensive car habits seem to know this guy and his shop. I had the pleasure of buying my 360 Spyder (A Euro model that he Federalized) from him about 2 years ago (At the time, he was doing a TON of Ferrari EPA conversions due to a favorable currency ratio and insatiable US Ferrari demand). A couple months after getting my 360 Spyder, I went to his shop and saw 10 more 360 Spyders sitting around, a 959, a cool looking Koenig Testarossa and an F50. About 6 months before the US launch of the 550 Barchetta, he had 4 of them in his shop getting converted along with 7 more 360 Spyders (I was like, WTF!)... About 6 months before the GT2 hit the states he had a couple of them in his shop getting converted too. I’ve pretty much seen it all at his shop, RR Phantom, Vanquish, Diablo SV, Gallardo, Murcielago, 2-Door G Wagon… There was a golden period for about a year where every time I went to visit him, I expected to see the unexpected. I think the neatest thing I ever saw -besides the 959- was a CLK DTM that he was working on (600 HP & 600 torque?). Carbon Fiber everywhere on that thing and I think only 100 were made for Europe only... I remember him saying it made a Murcielago sound like a sissy. Anyway, nothing is too exotic for his shop but at the same time, they work on a lot of "normal" personal cars that people bring in from Europe to the US. Ramez is a great blue-collar type of guy... on my 360 Spyder; he's done routine stuff like an oil change and battery change. Has done non-routine stuff like lowering the 360 and installing stiffer springs and beefing up the door latches so they stop "popping off". He works on all my cars now, changed rims on my 360, Range Rover and CL600, installed nerf bars on the Rover, changed rotors on my CL600. You get the picture... I agree with everybody that dealer servicing is rather dishonest and horrible in South Florida... whether The Collection, Prestige or Mercedes Miami, avoid all the Dealers. Ramez's true love is 911's. There's some kind of ClubSport GT3 series that he and a bunch of his customers are involved in. So if you go to his shop, you'll probably see a couple neat looking "race" GT3's getting worked on. A cool side benefit to stopping by periodically is a lot of his customers constantly flip their cars and tend to drop by just to chat, so if you're in the market for something, he's worth getting to know. I got my Ferrari through him and was very very close to getting a Gonzo souped up 911 turbo that one of his customers had. If you go, tell him and Sylvia that John Lee says Hi. BTW, the Tim guy sounds great but I’ve never had a reason to go up to Lauderdale and use him. PS. Ramez has a website up under ngtmotorsport and probably can be looked up in the phonebook under that or AMC (That’s what he called his shop for doing EPA conversions).
NGT Ramos: he truly bleeds Porsche but you should not hold that against him. He has excellent mechanics. He is only yards away from the warehouses I am building and where my new shop will be. Call me if you need his number. I only have his cell and do not want to post that. Bacchus Auto: my personal mechanic for most of my work. Murry is excellent. Knows his stuff. Do not let the chaotic shop deter you. he knows what he is doing and is fair in pricing and does not overcharge you. Tim Stanford: one of the best mechanics out there. Decades of knowledge. Knows especially his classic cars. If I had a vintage I would bring it to Tim. For the new ones, like your 456, you can use Murry. There is another choice. For that I have to make a call though and see if they can take you in. They usually only do race Challenge cars. Let me know what you need done. Best area when it comes to choices. Collection....you may want to rethink that. Same with Prestige Imports etc.
Ok. Suppose you want a PPI on a 360.........Both The Collection, as well as Shelton indicated that they no longer do PPI's. However, Tim Stanford & Murray Bacchus don't have the SD-II computers. What do you do????
