How does FML determine the values for their "Asking Price Index"?

It is a fascinating matrix of trends, but where do these numbers come from? Several models that are not represented in the classifieds still have very precise asking prices. What really made me start to wonder was the fact that 275GTB and 275GTB/4 show asking prices of $333,855 and $579,775, yet one of each is listed in the classifieds at $625k and $850k respectively.

Are these numbers based on a much larger survey of market prices?

The API is always going to be behind current asking prices during periods of rapid change and will catch up as the market levels out. More here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/velostrada/issues/200507/05Ausbrooks-Market_Guide.htm
