Hi and a very Happy Xmas to everyone.

I was hoping some of you may have experience with old Ferrari key rings. I recently bought this Icor Brevettato Milano Keyring that's supposed to be from the 1960's but after doing a little research I'm not so sure, and wonder if it's either a later version or a repro. Info on these is not as readily available as Lorioli or Coinart ones.

I've attached some pictures of the one I bought on the left compared to a couple of originals I found on the net. The horse looks the same on the originals but quite different on the one I bought. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Graham.

Looks more like a bottle opener than a keyring.

Ha it does! But it's definitely a keyring that apparently came with 60's cars like the 250's. Although it could maybe double as a bottle opener in an emergency!

The one you bought certainly looks different than the pics you've found on the internet… but how certain are you the pics you found on the internet are accurate?

I honestly don't know anything about the key ring, but the top found pic is from CFP, which I wouldn't trust the authenticity of anything they sell (I have first-hand experience with that):

    https://www.classicferrariparts.co.uk/shop/1960s-ferrari-250-275-icor-brevettato-milano-keyring-key-fob/

Not sure where the second found pic is from, but I found one on eBay that claims to be original that looks much more like yours:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/115144303016

But that one on eBay appears to be the same one being sold by Baroli (maybe that's their eBay shop?):

    https://www.baroli-automobilia.com/product/ferrari-icor-milano-keychain-keyfob-1960s/

I have no idea which one is authentic (if any). Or, it's possible both are authentic. If you look at Ferrari badges (any badge - nose, tail, wheels, horn, script, horse, etc.) from that period and later you'll see a lot of differences between them on the same cars (meaning a 250 Lusso could have the same badges as another 250 Lusso, yet they look different, and both are original). The companies who made these things might have altered the design after a batch or two were made, Ferrari may have requested changes, there may have been multiple dyes with differences, may have changed the manufacturing process—all sorts of things could have happened.

If you trust the seller of the one you bought, then I say enjoy it! Hopefully the seller was being completely honest and transparent with you. There's bound to be a key ring expert out there though… good luck!

FWIW, brevettato is the Italian word for patented. It is not a trademark or model name...

Great thanks for all the really useful info. I also found the one for sale by Baroli which gave me more confidence mine is genuine. The other Ferrari key rings like Loiroli also had various designs of horse like the cars badges that you mentioned. Nothing seems very certain when it comes to classic cars!

I think Icor in Milano is the maker

I received the Icor keyring and it looks cool as part of my collection. I didn't pay that much for it so I'm happy. I have a few Lorioli and Coinart ones too that I didn't pay anywhere near what's being asked on Ebay as well as some Ferrari dealership keyrings. A fun side hobby.
