Hi! New here. I am potentially interested in buying a Ferrari GTC4lusso. However after doing a lot of research, I have noticed there are a lot of complaints regarding the PTU having issues/failing on the V12 models.

If I choose to purchase a V12 model I really don't want to roll the dice and hope that the PTU wont fail on me and if it does, possibly cause me to be stranded or worse, damage my engine in the process. Repairs are very expensive, and from what I read, even if its repaired, their is not a guarantee that the PTU wont fail again.

My thought process is, since the GTC4Lusso T is rwd, you're eliminating Ferraris PTU and Ferraris 4RM AWD system altogether, so arguably, you have a more simpler setup. Basically not having to worry about the PTU failing since there isn't one on the GTC4Lusso T.

So my question is, Wouldn't the GTC4Lusso T arguably be more reliable than the V12 model?

From the research I have done so far, eliminating 4RM AWD system from your set-up would, arguably, make the T more reliable. In addition to reliability, I think the T, with lower-end torque, drives a bit easier around town and in traffic.

That said, the V12 is a different beast - the sound of the V12 engine and it's history makes you feel you are driving a special machine. If you intend a lot of traffic-free, freeway driving then I would keep the V12 into consideration.

I went through the thought process and landed on a V12 FF. Either ways you go, keep in mind that a $5-6K, 2 year, CPO warranty would give you peace of mind.

    Happy hunting!

You’ll get different opinions. I own a V12 and have driven the T. There is zero comparison. None. There is nothing on earth like a Ferrari V12. Even going on almost 6 years the sound is still exhilarating

The PTU issue is overblown. It’s not as common as you think. Regardless they can be fixed without replacement.

And on a side note. I had a PTU failure at 4K miles. Granted it was under warranty but I would still buy the V12 without a second thought

As gilly said, don’t sweat the PTU issue. It’s overblown. You’re more likely to suffer a DCT failure (which is on both cars!) than a PTU failure. And there are now permanent fixes for the PTU which run to around $10-15k depending on where you are.

100% agree. Driven both of them and the sound of the v12 is intoxicating and visceral. Nothing compares to a ferrari v12. Ptu my dealer said if car is out of warranty can be repaired between 8-10k. I suggest go drive both and see. I did and all it took me was 2 mins behind the wheel of the T to confirm that it would be either the 12 or nothing :)

regarding how both drive i did not personally see much difference. If agility and nimbleness is the first priority go with a car that does not weigh 4000lbs. Both r heavy. Having said that i think they both are excellent and agile for a car that weighs 4000lbs. I did spirited driving with the 12 and it ticks all the boxes. Go drive both and do not worry about the ptu. Get it from a dealer with 2 year warranty if u want piece of mind. Good luck
