Ferrari has clearly jumped the shark with this quiet V6 halo. Maybe it fancies itself more of a fashion company now. Without the badging and color I’m not sure I can definitively say it’s a Ferrari anymore. Certainly not by the sound anymore. Sad.

It’s possible some sort of customer conditioning effort could be taking place. In regards to this F80, perhaps it’s quite sound is more due to particulate filters and turbos. Reports are that it cannot be driven in EV mode without the ICU so if true in this regard it’s less ‘EV’ than the V12 LaFerrari. That being said I’m no Ferrari apologist. I think the styling has been downhill since severing ties with PF. I think they are really on the edge and walking a very fine line so to speak making SUV’s and EV’s and as far as we know, no new V12 on the way. I also acknowledge some of this is not in their control and from the policy makers in Brussels. I feel LdM had the perfect business model for Ferrari of exclusivity and success that they leapt from the be where they are now. I don’t know what the future holds for them.

What do you expect them to be?

The electric cars have already "won" the performance battle.... forever.... v6, v8, v10, v12, v16, it doesn't matter..... look at the Rimac Nevera or the newest Tesla stuff.... the drag race videos are literally not even close.

That's not even to mention that these cars all go into permanent garage-queen storage anyway.... You can't touch the performance on public streets. Track them? Not worth the risk. Just buy a dedicated track car for that, no need for road legal if that's what you want. Even to just roll it out to a cars & coffee event or to be the top dog in the valet at your local steakhouse, there is just so much risk for damage or other drama in our society now.

The Ferrari brand really is one of the best in the world. In my opinion they should focus on heritage and the emotions of a sports car..... look what Porsche did with the new 911 S/T (or the Singer 911's retromods)..... or even new new Bugatti Tourbillon..... it's all about "digital detox"...... less tech, no screens...... you want a visceral, analog experience. With the highest quality bespoke hand-cut leather interior with all controls milled out of metal (no plastics anywhere)... Give me a manual transmission and a symphony exhaust note... make me feel something again that's polar opposite to the the A.I. Robotaxi's that will take over all our roads.

Completely agree on heritage and emotion. I got into Ferrari during their 70th anniversary. Their video that concluded with the black LaFerrari aperta with red trim still gives me chills. I cannot imagine the same video ending with a silent drive by from a V6 halo with haptic buttons. They should have just made this all electric. Just my 2 cents.

How have EV’s won the performance battle? This is a most short sighted statement. Are you and everyone else on the planet forgetting about distance and duration? How many miles and laps can these electric anchors do before having to be plugged in for hours?

For the 70th anniversary I drove my 1958 TdF from London to Maranello as fast as I could through England, France, Switzerland and over the alps into Italy. When I went under the Welcome to Italy sign at the border it felt like the car had an extra 50 horsepower, it knew it was going home, the V12 never sounded sweeter or more exciting and everyone waved on the autostrada as I overtook them at over 200 km/hr. It stirred my emotions, it brought a tear to my eye. That was incredible, that was an experience with a car I will never forget. That car I think has around 240 hp, did I ever want an extra 1,000 horsepower? I did not.

I’m not saying the F80 should have less power, I think it’s perfect just the way that it is, because that’s how Ferrari made it. The V6 engine, the power, the styling, the hybrid system, it’s all a sign of the times and it is the 6th chapter in the supercar story. It’s probably the perfect car to encapsulate 2024, for better or for worse.

I guess my point is that we have an entire catalogue of Ferrari cars stretching back 80 years. Pick whichever one you like and if the F80 is the one you like, that’s not wrong, but there are certainly other Ferraris that will be stirring emotions for decades to come irrespective of what the latest cars will be.

and PS I documented that trip here for anyone with some spare time

Yes, excellent point. Thanks for sharing the link. Perhaps one day you’d consider letting me film the 1958 TdF. Just a thought.

    Ferrari doesn’t care anymore.
EPS in all the line up, same F140 V12 since more than 20 years.
Ditched the best TTV8 (F154) ever after not even 10 years.
No F8 special to release their hybrid V6 asap.
FWD soon to become the norm.
EV comings (imo with fake gears change and engine noise from the speakers)
Silly design choices in many models

It’s hard to see Ferrari become a luxurious soulless brand but it is.
There is sadly enough people that enjoy the badge above everything else.
In their infinite stupidity they are destroying the brand.
I should just buy McLaren but I’ve an hard time to be excited enough, despite being the only, single last car enthusiast brand out there!
Just look at the W1, new V8 + RWD + HPS + lighter than F80.

Exactly. EV's for now are one trick ponies.

I will only consider that EV's have "won" once they can beat a contemporary F1 car over a full F1 race distance, beat contemporary Lemans cars over the 24 hours, and beat the fastest ICE cars over a standing 1/4 mile. They currently are not even close.

Detailed downforce comparison between McLaren W1 and Ferrari F80.

Front, Rear, Total @ Speed | Model
    350 kg, 650 kg, 1000 kg @ 280 km/h | McLaren W1
    =>
    279 kg (+00%), 518 kg (+00%),  797 kg (+00%) @ 250 km/h | McLaren W1
    460 kg (+65%), 590 kg (+14%), 1050 kg (+32%) @ 250 km/h | Ferrari F80

    McLaren's official figures have been converted from @ 280 km/h to @ 250 km/h by using formula:
    downforce / 280^2 * 250^2

As we can see, F80 generates a lot more downforce at the front with their clearly larger s-duct front wing solution. Ferrari has obviously wanted to have a good traction at front wheels as well, while McLaren's downforce is focused on the rear wheels. Makes sense as the former is 4WD and the latter is RWD.

One will likely drive like the visceral 765LT (on steroids) and the other will likely drive like the boring SF90 (on steroids). I know this is Ferrari Chat...but I'll take the visceral experience any day. I'd also be shocked if the W1 was slower on track. Time will tell...

Don't forget the F80 is also down by nearly 200lb ft of torque as well, despite the 3 E-motors and will be 300-400lbs heavier. Stop light racing goes to the F80...track and canyons, give me the W1 please. Again...time will decide these last points...

What a horrible boxy front end...maybe they shoulda collaborated with the C8 Corvette rear-end designer, then they could have at least been consistent with the entire 'box' look. Huge disappointment, IMHO. This is coming from someone who has loved all their previous hyper car offerings.

Yes...I know it's Ferrari Chat, so you guys only see things one way...'all hail Ferrari' (or you might risk your next allocation).

I love boxy as much as I love curvy, but the Diablo GTR did this design better, without the Mask of Zorro.

F80 has a software that automatically detects the best places on the track where to apply the electric power. This suggests that electric motors can't provide full power all the time. So it is battery limited.

W1 has a much smaller battery than F80, so even if it has higher maximum electric power, it is likely to run out of juice faster. Especially as it doesn't have MGU-H to load the batteries.

Then again, Ferrari needs energy also to e-turbos. But this should not take much energy as most likely the electric motors are used only to accelerate compressors up to proper operating speeds where big turbo chargers can operate efficiently.

The F40 was. It was on all bedroom posters, looked great, it was every boy's dream.

WRONG on all counts. The Enzo is one of the best looking cars ever made. And it has a glorious sounding NA V12.
Also, a racing background doesn't mean ****, nobody gives a **** about it.

It only was a dissapointment in the sense that when it came out it did not outperform everything out there and was a bit underpowered.
Otherwise, it looks and sound incredible.

The F80 is HIDEOUS and has a puny crappy turbo V6.
    It's a MONUMENTAL FAILURE.
