108 lbs for the oe seats.....certainly room for some serious weight reduction on the 355

This exhaust deleted somewhere well over 25 lbs of crap from the back of the car to include cats, upper bypass tube, bypass valve, rear muffler, and other associated stuff. It weighs 26.5 pounds, changing the tips on it would be trivial.

Thanks, $70 on fleabay but they are actually quite stunning both visually and in the fact that the quality is pretty darn high.

I was lucky enough to get my bumper from a parts hoarder member on this board, it was the only one he had unfortunately. A word of caution the challenge front bumper was never meant to run fogs and had different front brake ducts. It's taken a little bit of bodywork to make my street car work with the challenge front bumper, it's not for every body shop.

    Cool thanks

I guess I will need to pop a few molds myself. I have several different style bumpers for the 355.

Race car parts are getting hard to find for these old girls

Yes and super expensive if you wreck parts. Pulling molds is a great idea just to keep costs down.

Anyone weigh the rear engine subframe and the bumper structure frame that bolts behind it?

Looks simple enough to fixture up and replicate in aluminum.

Engine cradle is pretty light I would guess 100 pound range. I have 2 sitting here that I walk around with, no way to weigh them

The unsprung weight minus the wheels is the heavy stuff by far

I dont have any bumper reinforcments at all in the 355 challenge, CF shells just pop rivited to the body.

The front drivers side fog lamp is ducted for an external transmission cooler on the Challenge cars. The right side one is blocked off on my car. You can always take a look at mine if you need to see how something is set up.

Hmm, 100lbs. Maybe could be 50 in alloy?

I should probably just leave the car as-is but the thought of going crazy and cutting weight (while keeping it stock appearing) is tempting.

I think 50 is very possible. It's a simple build and can be improved with what we know today.
Thats the reason I have a couple spares, one freshly painted the other to make a copy in alum if I ever find the time.
Thos control arms and knuckles need to be totally replaced with something else. Should not be that hard to do with the bolt on driveshafts

that would be cool if you had the time to fabricate an alloy frame.

    It's really super simple.

I was planing on starting a Chaparral clone out of aluminum this summer. A subframe may be a good tuneup working with alum.

Like I said all the unspring stuff is super heavy and very old technology, Thats where the winning lottery ticket is. Maybe Indy car rear suspension :)
