The tendency of some to turn a race-car into a road car is fascinating.

Once you do this, the car is compromised, because it's no longer as effective a track car as it used to be, nor is it ever going to be a good road car as the road version.

Doing this with an F40 is particularly redundant as the F40LM is quite a potent track-weapon, and the F40 is a great road car, the solution is to have both, the F40LM for the track, and the F40 for the road, which is exactly why Ferrari made both.

Of course if you're trying to have two for the price of one, then you have to compromise.

Yes but you have to take into consideration that most of the owners are not people who can extract 100% of the F40LM on the track and they might be looking for an F40 with a bit more spice. I also dont doubt that whatever was done to get it legal can be undone rather easily.

In any case, i applaud this move as it allows us to see such a car on the road. I think it's its 2nd SOC event.

    Andrew, don't get me started!

As a professional whose job it is to examine F40s, including those modified ones whose owners claim they can be easily returned to standard, I can tell you that the cars are almost never returned to standard at point of sale because of the hassle & expense of same.

In many cases the car has been severely compromised and or irreversibly hacked into and will cost a small fortune to truly return it to standard specification.

Meanwhile we can see F40LMs on the track, seeing them on the road is not an excuse to butcher them.

I realize we are in danger of sending the Enzo thread I started years ago careening off the rails with F40 off-topic material, so perhaps we should continue this discussion in the F40 thread.

I once wrote a significant piece on the bastardization & automotive vandalism bestowed upon F40s, let me see if I can dig it out.

Do you happen to also know the chassis number of the F50 rumored to be in that same collection?
