Had searched and difficult to find so started this thread for easy reference/search in the future. 10 - Orders accepted (Red 10 = No Changes) 20 - Chassis assembly (at Scaglietti) 30 - Painting 40 - Assembly line (dash/wiring/interior/options) 50 - Assembly line (engine/transmission) 60 - Finishing 70 - Testing (road/track) 85 - Storage 90 - Water (intransit) 92 - PDI completed 93 - Shipping to dealers 94 - Dealer stock 94 - Red - retailed 95 - Submit to factory
At what stage is a VIN assigned to the car being built? I've heard that the factory often tells the owner the VIN of the car before the build is complete.
Just asked dealer that very question yesterday as my Cali t is now on the water. He said I will not get the vin number until it is at pdi in NJ
This thread is one that needs to be reposted or resurrected a couple times a year at least. Since my third Cali went 10 in mid May I was about to do the search again myself, thanks!!
This conflicts and/or contradicts what I've seen other owners post. There have been threads in the past where an owner has posted that he ordered a car, and it was at such and such a status, and only after so far into the build was he given the VIN - but he was given the VIN before the build was even completed, let alone at his dealer for the PDI.
Hi, Larry... This also conflicts with what I've read. It was my understanding that a Ferrari was assigned a VIN before its build was completed, but it couldn't be assigned a VIN before the build began.
If I remember correctly, it's already with the paperwork that circulates with the car during production - so maybe it gets assigned when the car goes RED 10.
I will call the dealer to recheck...maybe he is too bust to do it....it seems as though once it is out of production, which it is, the dealer should have it. Thanks for the input.
I have a Speciale on the way and I got my VIN from the dealer when the car went to status 70. I'm at 85 now, waiting for it to be loaded on the boat.
My F12 is status 10, but I have a copy from my dealer which I received yesterday which also gives a delivery date of 2/26/2016. Obviously, this must be an estimated date, but does anyone know if this estimates completion at the factory or arrival at the dealer??
Estimated delivery varies. My Speciale delivery date was 05/26/2015 but I actually got the car 09/16/2015. They build about 9 V12 and 24 V8 cars per day.
When my order was locked on May 22, 2020 I also received the VIN. It went into painting (30) on June 3th but have received no other detailed information on regarding the current status. Judging by other comments, the flow of information is sketchy and random.
I have a vin but still at Red 10,the dealer says it must be beyond Red 10 if I have a Vin so is checking with the factory, I'll post the outcome when they let me know
Great thread. My car went to stage 70 yesterday and could be on a boat within a week. Meanwhile, in the MyFerrari app, I am still on the waitlist even though a VIN has been assigned.
The app is very hit or miss. When I ordered my 812 I had the VIN at Red10, about 2-3 weeks before it entered production. I still have no VIN for my F8 spider, but I'm also not sure what the status is on it currently.
They make great cars but their client facing tech is awful. I had the configurator open in a tab and it made my laptop unusable. When I started investigating, I found it was using 100% of the CPUs resources.
Their online configurator isn't even worth using lol. Doesn't even hold a flame to what you end up using at the dealer. I wish they would make their client side tech better, and especially make the configurator more similar to the amount of customization available at the dealer.
Hello, when I placed my order (deposit and spec) for an 812 GTS in June 2021, the dealer gave me an 18 digit order number from Maranello. Does that have any meaning? I know I am just on a waiting list for the next 18 months but my dealer was super confident that I would get my build (considering the production cut off was not until October). Any thought please, thank you.
My F8 spider went 10 red in July. Because of the Omigerd! scarient we're leaving in a couple days for our winter home. Wondering if anyone has a feel for whether my car might be built in time to enjoy it this winter.
The VIN has to be assigned at the latest at Scaglietti, as the VIN is stamped on various parts of the chassis.
