Just hooked up the ferrari charger on my new 360, and it doesn't look like it's working, maybe someone can help. I have plugged it in under the panel in front of the windshield. When I turn the power on I have the red light on all the time, and the green and yellow flashing. Don't really understand the reason the manual gives as to why this is occuring, anyone know? Also even when it is not connected to the car, but the mains only the same light sequence is occuring.

    Thanks

Doesn't sound to be working right. Should be red, then flashing green then solid green when it's charged. That's on a Battery Tender.

hmmm any ideas what it could be, is it likely to be the charger or something within the car that links the quick adapter to the actual battery? Having done a search it seems the ferrari chargers suck! Is there a way that I could buy another non ferrari charger but use the same quick fitting mechanism that is put in at the factory, the one in the trunk just below the windscreen? Is it possible to get a charger that uses the same fitting?

    Mark,

It can take 24-36 hours for a trickle charger to fully charge a battery, and the amount of time depends upon how frequently you drive the car..

The green/yellow lights are telling you that there is a partial charge, and there is more time required for a full charge.

When it's close to a full charge, the yellow/green will only illuminate, and then when fully charged the green only should show.

One of my cars I don't drive very much took 36+ hours to fully charge!

    Give it time.

Greg, does the yellow and green flashing, with the red permanently on not indicate a problem though? That's the idea I got from the battery charger manual.

I have in Interstate charger. It has red and green LED's only. The red will stay on a long time, thn the green will flash, and then it glows green.

I don't know what your LED colors represent.

You can measure the voltage from the unit if you have a meter. Unplug from current, unplug from battery, and then measure after plugging back into the current.

It's possible you have a problem. How old is your battery?

Old batteries yield strange readings as I experienced. However, as soon as I put in a new battery, everything worked fine.

Not sure how old the battery is, the charger is a ferrari one, and I am guessing it's that that is the problem. Not sure though, cheers for your help anyway.

    Hi Mark,

I haven't used mine yet and it still has the seal wrapping on it, and the same with the last one.

However in the 'old country' I have a similar one on a Pcar. The red goes on immediately you give the charger unit power.

Then, after a few minutes, depending on the state of charge of the battery at that time, it might be green for quite a while,(perhaps a couple of hours) then green&yellow for another while and finally when it's fully charged all will begin flashing.

Give it a bit of time.

    Hi Donie

Do you never charge your battery then - you just leave it?

Had the charger on all night, and same light sequence, red on permanently and green and yellow flashing. I think this is showing there is a problem (according to the battery manual) Just trying to figure out if it's the charger or something in the car. From what I have read these ferrari chargers are useless and don't last long at all.

    Mark,

Do you have the little booklet battery charger manual? If not I'll take a look at mine later today and give you a heads-up.

I haven't yet had to charge the battery, and if I'm going to be away from the car for a few days I always switch off the main battery switch.

I know that this method gives you a few problems with the ECU losing everything in memory, plus the Becker dropping the code, but otherwise the system will devour the battery in as little as a week. There is no hard and fast rule. Some 360's do it much quicker than others.

Yeah i have the manual Donie, but I am not technical enough to understand what it means! I think it is telling me there is a fault though - some kind of a short circuit or less than 3 volts in the battery which seems unlikely. I am gona order an Optimate and just hook up a quick adapter from the hatch behind the seat, unless I can find a way to change the adapter on the current fitting that the ferrari one connects to.

    Mark,

The most widely aclaimed charger/maintainer of the moment is the CTEK XS 3600, or even the CTEK XS 800. These are very sophisticated units which can be left on FOREVER. The 3600 is a charger capable of charging/maintaining batteries of up to 120Ah, and the 800 is lighter but very suitable to maintainance. I've researched these units and I'm most impressed with them over the Optimate.

    Look them up on www.ctek.com

I bought one of each recently from the U.K.. I've got a good source, and will email you details later.

Is your battery discharged already? For most auto chargers, if the battery is really drained and shows a voltage much lower than 12 volts, then the auto charger senses this abnormal low voltage and will not charge the battery.

No battery seems fine, just pre-planning here as would be tough to get the car out of the garage if things do go wrong.

thanks donie for the info - will have a look into them

For the benefit of anyone with this problem in the future.

I have now fixed it. The problem was a steady red light, with flashing yellow and green on the ferrari battery charger. It transpires that there is a fuse within the car for the charging system. It is located in one of the fuse boxes behind the drivers seat (LHD car), from memory fuse 72, it's a light blue one with 15 written on it. The old fuse was blown, when I changed it car is charging properly now.

    Mark,

That's good news. Great work, you'll be a guru in no time.

Doing your own bits and pieces has a double financial benefit. Apart from the direct benefit through not having to pay through the nose at the stealer, (I mean dealer), there is another indirect saving.......less time to spend money in the pub, or Los whateveryoucallit near the gas refinery

    Hi,

The 3300 is the same charger as the Charge-O-Mat sold by Porsche for around $70. I have one, works great, though about the same at my Battery Tender Plus.

Hi Gus, Red was on all the time, green and yellow were flashing. Check the fuse in the car that I mentioned. If it's this, you just slot in a new one and it should be working.

How nice is to fix a headache caused by the ferrari battery charger, after reading a year old post. I had your identical situation, and just did what you said it was the solution.

Mark, my very first post in this great forum is to thank you for posting the way to fix a problem I just couldn't find anywhere else. So, as you said a year ago, "for the benefit of anyone with this problem in the future", I guess more than a year after your post, counts as "the future" pretty well.

You have no idea how much you've help me out "from the past" so to speak. Thank you SO MUCH.
