Lots of errors in that article. Clutch life 15k miles, brake discs 10k? Ridiculous.
Also all 456 hoods are carbon fiber, earliest GT to the very last M.

Luggage may be factory supplied, but not for this car. Wonder whether seller does not know better or whether sign of overselling...

ps. fitting the Bridgestone rather than Pzero is also an awkward choice (I know these are the only two choices available in Europe, but the Pzero are much better and more expensive)

True. That is the earlier set for the 456, not the M. The M luggage seems to be made of unobtanium.

Yes, why are they not upfront about it and make it sound as if it came with the car? For £125k I wouldn't want any stories...

Perhaps they assume a potential buyer may not know the difference? Or perhaps it really doesn't matter. If the future owner is a first time owner, he may not have done any homework regarding luggage or factory options offered with the car. IMO the earlier luggage is prettier.

I was cleaning out my rather large collection of Magazines and stumbled on an article by Rowan Atkinson about his experience of buying a 456, it was in July 1996 CAR magazine.
Id attach a copy but not sure about copy right.

Think I remember that, didn't he change the steering wheel for a non air bag one?

No he didn't in the end he decided he liked the airbag wheel (4spoke)
It's an article of both excitement an frustration at the treatment by the dealer over paying for the car and having to wait for the funds to be cleared before sir could have the car.
Also the time it took (6months) to get carpet to replace the ones on the doors as didn't match the floor.
Interesting as the car was his daily drive...

Yes, highly interesting. :) I wonder if they made it look a bit Testarossish to just disguise it or if they actually were first thinking of the 456 GT looking a bit more like the TR and 355?

    Cheers,

Exactly where the pictures belong. I have only seen a black and white picture of this car leaving the factory. Thank you for adding it to the discussion.

I think that, from the very beginning, the designers had a return to the lines of the 365GTB in mind and that the side strakes, etc. were just a disguise.

Nice pics, first for me too. The 456 has a single bonnet and does not have front fenders, makes you wonder whether the front fenders on this were really separate from the bonnet; or are those lines just painted on to look as if it had them... clever disguise if that's what it is.
