The red line on my tach is 7000rpm (1975 354 GT4 2+2). Although I seldomly go above 6500 because the pull starts to level off.

I agree. I can't think of any reason why revving to 7,000 rpm on the road would be desirable. Plus the 400i, at least, has a rev limiter integral with the dinoplex ignition so you couldn't rev it past 6,500 even if you wanted to. Not sure if the earlier versions have the rev limiter feature but, if they have the dinoplex, they probably do.

The main difference that I would expect is from the hp differential with the 365/400 having 340 hp and the 400i having 315 bp. The 412 brought the hp back up to 340.

My guess is that the main sensational difference will be in the exhaust sound since probably none of them have a truly stock exhaust setup anymore. I know that my 400i with cats removed and replaced with "test pipes", one muffler section and one resonator section just before the tailpipes, sounded completely different and much sportier than it did with the cats installed in place of the "test pipes".

    Seth,
I started out with my first Ferrari in 1970, A 1966 330GT and had numerous 60s and 70s cars from 250GTEs to 365GT 2+2. The cars built during that time were more of a for "Sports Car Buyers only" Quality. When the 70s came around Ferrari seamed to go toward a more upscale market where many of the buyers with the Money to buy them were more interested in being seen in them than actually using them for sporting events and started leaning toward more refined cars that would be more acceptable to the wife, that is about the time the 365GT4 became the 400GT and 400 automatic. So I think the 365GT4 reminds me of my earlier cars and what I consider the Classics. I also own a Daytona that I am restoring and a 550 Maranello in addition to the 365GTC/4 and the 365GT4.

Thanks for your comments. My apologies if I did not sound true in my post.

    Perhaps I should introduce myself.

My name is Jean-Michel and I started collecting these cars in December 2009.

I was interviewed by Ferrari Club 400 at the time I had already acquired the 6 cars:

European Ferrari 400 Club » Jean-Michel, six voitures : «*Pour une telle voiture, il ne peut pas seulement s?agir de logique*»

The article is in French, my apologies again.

It is correct that I am not the only driver of these cars. For example 4 of these cars went to Le Mans Classic 2012 (with a track session for all of them), I was just one of the drivers.

I ran timed rally twice in mountainous areas:

    With 400 Auto (chassis 24541) in 2010
    With 365 GT4 2+2 (chassis 17425) in 2011

Except the 412, all these cars went on track, 4 of them at Le Mans (France), one of them - 365 GT4 2+2 chassis 17425 - at Fiorano (Italy).

Incidentally I had an ignition failure on 17425 on the Fiorano track, it turned out the culprit was the modern electronic ignition replacement (manufacturing fault). The original points were put in place again by Toni Auto in Maranello, so that I could drive home.

In total, these cars have been driven (mostly by myself) 38.000km since Dec 2009. The highest utilization was for 365 GT4 2+2 chassis 17425, 13.000km since June 2010, the lowest utilization was for 412 chassis 77500, 1.900 km since September 2010. The 412 still does not have 10.000 km, which is why (rightly or wrongly) I am not running it on long trips.

I am still at the stage of making these cars as durable as they can be, two of them are in maintenance at the moment:

365 GT4 2+2 17295 (acquired in December 2011) has its bodywork being restored with the objective of giving it its original external color (Oro Kelso).

400i Manual 31273 (acquired in May 2011) has its engine being restored, this car has 160.000km.

The 7.000rpm experience was for 365 GT4 2+2 17425 at 6.000km after engine being fully restored as a final acceptance test. This was done in first gear the mechanic who redid the engine was driving and I was the passenger. The redline on this car is at 7.000rpm. Since that, I have done another 3.000km with this car, but I take your point about revving up engines and from now on, I will be very attentive to that.

To make this introduction complete, I also own two BB's. 365 GT4 BB chassis 18571 (pictures of it at Spa Classic 2014 https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/boxers-tr-m/449166-pics-365-gt4-bb.html), and 512 BBi chassis 46435. As well as a Jaguar Cab V12 manual and a Lotus 7 look alike made in Czech republic.

I hope I have answered your questions. Please let me know in case more details are needed.

    Jean-Michel,
No wonder you speak with knowledge and authority, good to see another enthusiast using these, and other, cars.
    More power to you.

    Very nice!

Thanks for posting and great pictures of your cars and article (wish I could read it). In the picture of Brett's shop I'm pretty sure that's my silver 365 (I elected to keep the back of the car silver and not black because I like the silver better).

I think the attraction, and higher price (at least for some people) of the 365 GT4 2+2 over the 400 manual are the following:

1: 365 GT4 2+2 has knock off wheels, which for many people connects it subconciously with the earlier, more valuable, Enzo era Ferrari's,
    2: The "365" model designation implies it's related to the 365 GTC/4, 365 GT2-2, 365 GT4 BB and 365 GTB/4, all of which are "desirable"
3: All 365 GT4 2+2's are manuals, which a lot of people prefer
4: The "400" is mainly associated with the injected automatic cars, and nothing else.

    Seth

Merci Seth, bien entendu j'accepte ta demande! Je suis de la région lyonnaise mais je traverse la France assez fréquemment en 400 (ou autre) dans quelle région fais-tu rouler ta superbe 412?

France must be the true nest of all the 365-400 interest. I own a 1976 that as been in restore since last June. maybe this year? at home I have a 83 ai, a 79ai RH conversion(9,600 miles), owned by Pete Townhsend. I have driven 10 trouble free years in the coupe. I have only seen the 365. the RH drive really solid. I can tell a big difference. like a used against a new car. just purchased a 1977 with o motor and toes of missing parts.. I have a complete spare 365/transmission already rebuilt.
