    Hi guys,

i recently acquired this momo steering wheel what i believe to be the correct piece for a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. It might be correct for other 365's, i'll leave that to the ferrari experts here.

Of course, it concerns an original piece and while the overal condition is good, i'd say the leather rim would need a renovation. It seems as if the wheel has been stowed away at a certain time, leaving the leather rim pressed/flattened. If you look at the pictures, you know what i mean. Therefor, i'm offering this a lot cheaper than what these go for nowadays.

    Price: 475€ excluding shipping/paypal.

    Ho ho ho...

We did indeed discuss this wheel through pm and you asked me about the size which I i said measures 370mm. You replied you thought most Daytona wheels are 390mm with a possibilty of a certain type of Daytona having a slightly smaller version because of power steering. A guy you know confirmed the 390mm size.

I said from the start I'm not sure about the origin and I told you as well I just went by the description when I bought the wheel. Before posting this wheel here I did some Google searching and it did seem like the Daytona had this wheel in it. I can't tell a 2cm difference by pics in Google nor would I expect different versions as this is a pretty rare design. I have over 300 momo's, i do know a thing or two but again, I'm not a ferrari expert...

I don't think you should claim that we extensively discussed this wheel to come to the conclusion this never belonged in a Daytona. Maybe you are sure, I still have no idea and went by what looked to be the case.

I would agree when you would have said that you did some asking and it appears that most (or perhaps all but you didn't know that either) daytonas had 390mm versions of this wheel. Maybe i should have added 370mm from the beginning but i forgot to add that.
But don't make it sound as if I am trying to scam someone here. I only sell as a collector and buyers satisfaction is my main concern. Which is why I receive a thanks 80% of the time after I sell something. The other 20% I don' hear a thing which is probably still a good sign. Because of the condition of the rim I priced this low I believe, believing this was/is a daytona wheel and knowing what they sell for in good condition. Your message is in total contrast with my intentions, thanks for that...

As if I would offer a 'fake' momo wheel to ferrari experts... if that was my intention I would just put it on eBay!

    This is extremely frustrating...

    .

Robin there is no doubt you are trying to pass this off as a daytona wheel.

Wow, I can not believe this...

So you're a a psychic now? The reason for not adding the diameter at first was that i simply forgot to! I run 2 jobs and usually get up at 5AM. I have many wheels I plan on listing but I simply don't get to it. When a wheel arrives I take pictures and then it get boxed up again because I don't have the room to display them. I hope to one day but yeah, time... I listed this in between a day with my two kids aged 8 and 2 and used the photos I had on my pc. I didn't even hold the wheel when I listed it and forgot to mention the size. It just passed me and is now used against me. Your first question was "what is the size and is this your best price?". I said very clearly I just had to measure it for another guy pm'ed me and clearly stated it was 37cm!! You said that as far as you knew, daytonas were 39cm and weren't sure about what this wheel exactly was. You also asked me if the outer steel ring was broken as that could be the reason perhaps for the size difference. My reply to you was that the ring felt nice and firm and I quote what I said: "So in relation to that, I don't think this wheel was 39cm by origin. A 2cm difference is quite a lot to make up for..." Now tell me again, how does that sound as if I was trying to scam someone?!?!

Why don't you quote my last message? Give me one good reason to offer it here instead of ebay if I wanted to scam someone? Please do...

P.S.: the other guy who pm'ed me was Wheels1 . He would be able to confirm the part I mentioned involving him.

I'm done with the accusations now. I admit it was not smart to not think about mentioning the size but a scammer?! Sold about 30 wheels so far I think, never one complaint, only thank you messages. I've sold a few books here too, perhaps you should ask them if they were happy with what they received...

    Sorry Robin I'm over this.
It is 370mm and not original daytona wheel. You mentioned the word scam not me.
I have not accused you of anything like that and I do think you are genuine momo enthusiast.
    But buyer beware.
I don't think this is a daytona wheel as you suggested in your OP ----- exact words --- (i believe to be the correct piece for a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona)

I agree it isn't 39cm, but never did I try to offer it as one. I also agree it may look 'strange' when this wasn't mentioned from the start, especially since the Daytona momo seems to be 39cm. It there is a difference in coming to post tour findings or coming here to make accusations. Yes i used the word 'scam' but isnt that what "trying to pass things off as something they are not" means? Because that were in fact your words. No doubt you added...

I did indeed say 'what I believe to be' followed also by "i'll leave that to the ferrari experts here."

I regret if this is not a Daytona wheel but at this point I have no idea what else it could be. Anyone? What I don' appreciate is your input here or at least the way you put it. If this wheel has anything to do with a scam then i would be the victim as this is exactly how I bought it. Talking about scams, I 'bought' a Porsche 911 2 years ago which didn't seem to exist. No Porsche, money gone... So no, I don't appreciate this. At all...

    Thanks for the blame.
The wheel is still for sale, being 37cm.
Leather would need a redo like I said which is why I priced it 1/3rd of the others I found online.

I took a look at the photos and at 37cm diameter, this steering wheel is from an L-series (1st series) Dino 246GT. Quite rare, reasonable price given it’s condition.

    Hello Andrew,

thank you for the clarification on this old momo wheel. I'll do some googling after this new lead when i have some time and might open a new thread on it later. Meanwhile, i'll leave it listed here. Thanks again, even more so for the positive words regarding the rarity and pricing of this wheel. I appreciate it.

    Regards,
    Robin

I think there is a good chance it is from a Daytona 1968-1971.

It has the momo in a square on the back which would give it this date range.
I don't think it’s for a Dino as it has too many mounting holes, most of the Dino’s I have seen had only 6 holes and from memory are quite a bit smaller than a Daytona wheel.

The size is a bit odd, but maybe earlier cars had slightly smaller wheels, or the foam has disintegrated and that is why it’s flat?

Sorry but you’re statement about the Dino is incorrect. BTW I know nothing about applicability to Daytonas.

I restored/own a late L-series 1970 Dino 246GT and this exact steering wheel is original for it and most Dinos of this model. The very early L-series still had the wooden wheel carried over from the 206GT, the rest had this steering wheel. This is well documented in The Dino Compendium by Matthias Bartz, pp 135,140.

Since only 355 vehicles of this model were produced after the 206GT, it’s pretty rare.
On Dino steering wheels, 3 sizes were used, at least 5 styles, various mountings.

I seem to have lost track of this thread...

Thanks for the knowledgable words above. Finally, there seems to be a good indication to which car this type of wheel belongs. At the moment, i have someone who might be interested in it and in case he decides to not buy it, i am thinking about sending it out to have the rim restored. Thanks.
