    Hey guys,

I'm due a new clutch on my F1 360 and ofcourse looking around for the best place (and price) to have this done.

How many hours labour should an indepednet specialist charge me to have a new clutch installed (with new flywheel)? I thought I heard figures of 5-6hours, but can't remember if that's right or not.

I just don't want to be ripped off.

    Cheers!

    aint cheep

runs between 5-10k from what I've read/seen (I have no personal experience for this job)

talk to a local independent shop that specializes in exotic/high end EUROPEAN vehicles.
if they are not already working on a Porsche/BMW/Jag ect, then don't go there

they will need a SD2 computer to recalibrate your TCU properly

there are a few makers of aftermarket clutch sets for the 360

Ferrari of Long Island does a clutch change job for $3785. I think that includes everything but don't quote me on it. For a dealer their prices are impossible to beat. If you do have a local guy I'm sure it would be even less than that.

    Hey,

Thanks, but I'm looking for how many hours in labour it will take for a specialist (someone wo knows what they're doing) for them to replace a clutch and flywheel. (not necesarily a price)

I am going to get the parts myself and just give them to a garage so they will only charge me for their labour.

    I'm in the UK

    Thanks

My local indie quoted me €500 (circa US$675) labour for a clutch change. He said he can do it in about 5 hours. It's a manual. The car is 11 years old so I don't feel the need for a dealer's stamp!

I don't want this to sound wrong but if you are worried about being ripped off:

    You need a new mechanic!

There are WAY too many little things you need to know to do the job right. There are a bunch of little bits and parts that can make the job easier. Plus you need specialized equipment to get it all correct. Any lack in talent, tools, or honesty can cost you big down the road. You need to find someone who has the tools, knows their stuff, and is reputable.

With the F1 transmission, the shop must have the Ferrari SD2 diagnostics computer to input all the settings. It will also reset your clutch wear to 0. You could have an independent install the clutch, then trailer it to a dealer to have them set it up with the computer. Don't know if the Dealer would like that approach, but it is possible.

For F1, my local indy shop says 15 hours at $115 labor = $1725 labor (which includes TO bearing replacment and SD2 adjustment).

New Ferrari clutch is like $3k I think, but there are much cheaper options. I'm strongly considering the FX300 kevlar clutch for like $1,150 for better longevity. Just not sure about the smoothness tradeoff. Need to hear more datapoints from users who've had a kevlar clutch.

That indy total for labor and clutch itself is only $2,875, but there are some more things needed like TO bearing ($500?), sensor kit ($400?), and quite a few $20-$30 sealing rings and oil.

The last clutch on my car done by a prior owner at Ferrari of NJ was a total of $4,245 + tax back in 2006.

15 hours is excessive . No way it should take that long . Vivid racing had no issues using Fx300 .y indie shop on the other said they had issues when they installed one on a F1 car but none on a 3 pedal. Personally I'm going with the Fx 200.

I wouldnt say its totally far from 15hours actually. At least on a Spider where you cant get the transmission support frame out easily.
I am in the middle of doing this on my 3-pedal Spider and it seems to take its time.

5-6 is the internet rate! You know that parts are always cheaper, jobs take less time, you don't need those expensive tools or experience according to the internet experts.......

wouldn't go out my doors that price. And previous post is correct, a lot more to do on a Spyder.

Ever wonder why the pros all gave up on this and other forums?

Pay the man what HE wants to do the job right. If he doesn't know, then he shouldn't be doing it, period.

Ferrari NJ is an awesome place but really expensive for service. They were the ones who did my car's major belt service 3 years ago and I still have the receipt (previous owner did it) totaling $5500! This past time around when I did the major I called them to see if their prices had come down, and nope they did not they still said a major service was around $5000.

Meanwhile Ferrari Long Island does the same service for $3200 + tax.

Anything they quote you I'd say take off 40-50% and that's what a fair price would be.

Even when I import a dealer tech from HK to MNL to perform a major service on my Modena, it never costed more than what you quoted for a mere clutch replacement job. Sounds a bit too excessive.

    Just my $.02!

I didn't know this a spider is harder to replace the clutch on? Great info to take into consideration I've always wanted to add a spider at some point. I love the 360 so much.

It is more difficult and the early Spiders are the most difficult. On some cars access to one of the sub frame bolts is obstructed by the Capote system so you may have to pull the top to change the clutch. Then again it isn't that bad.

The subframe bolts are the problem with mine (2001). There is no access because they are under the Capote system.
Well, transmission is now already back in place. Did not need to remove the top.
Just that the clutch block desided to crack... daym...

IIRC the book calls for 12 hours. I did mine in about 11. It's isn't that hard if you have decant mechanical ability.

when i had it done at universal auto they charged me 20hrs labor on spyder. Corsa is also quoting 20 hrs labor too. Yea it seems high, esp since you guys are saying it is 10-12 hrs. Funny thing is the first tech at corsa quoted me 12 hrs labor, but then it bumped up to 20 all of a sudden.

The very very expensive small flaps that rise up behind the driver and pasengers head to finish off the lines when the roof is down. Have not heard of any breaking before, except mine.
