Recently I bought the Ferrari 360 GTC, ch. no. 2060 at the RM Maranello auction. Really, I can tell you, I am completely over the moon with it! I am a 45 year old enthousiast from Amsterdam working in the aviation industry with a lifelong interest in cars, both classic and modern. My main marques of interest are Maserati, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Porsche and most racing cars. In the past 5 years I have been racing in various cars and races, lastly the Dubai 24 Hours in our Porsche 911 (997) GT3 Cup. Back to the car; it is chassis number 2060 delivered in March 2004 by Ferrari Corse Clienti in Rosso. In 2004 the car was owned by Mik Corse from Italy and raced, painted yellow, in the Italian GT Championship and in the FIA GT race at Imola in September 2004 with #87, driven by Piccolo/Berton. In April 2005 the car was sold to Scuderia Playteam Sara Free from Milano and raced in blue/white with much success in the Italian GT Championship in 2005 with # 78, winning many races and driven to the 2005 GT Championship by Alessandro Pier Guidi and Toni Vilander. In the same year the car was raced in the Spanish GT Championship by Giambattista Giannoccaro and various other drivers and also won many races in that Championship and the Spanish 2005 GT title. Then in Januari 2006 the car won the 50th edition of the 1000 Milas in Interlagos, Brazil, driven by Pier Guidi/Giannoccaro/Vilander. It was then featured with colour photos in both the Ferrari Yearbook 2005 and Ferrari Racing Activities 2005. In 2006 and 2007 the car was used by Playteam in various races in the Italian GT Championship and in the GT Open Championship. Interestingly in 2006 it secured Pole Position at Vallelunga beating various strongly driven 430 GT 2's! Also in November 2007 at Barcelona during the GT Open race it qualified very strongly only one second behind the Pole sitter in a Ferrari 430 GT2 Then Scuderia Playteam sold the car through the RM auction in Maranello to me. It received full Ferrari Classiche Certification on May 7th 2008. I saw the car in the catalogue and it intrigued me enormously. I already had planned a 10 day holiday trip in my recently acquired yellow F355 Spider together with my best friend (and fellow FChatter) to visit the Historic GP in Monaco and the Mille Miglia and RM auction. When I saw the car in Maranello during the preview it really captured my imagination sitting low and menacingly in its dark corner. I had meanwhile read up on its 2005 history in Cavallino no. 151 and other magazines. I contemplated the pros and cons of the car and came to the conclusion that this might be my chance to acquire a very genuine, even numbered, Michelotto built competition Ferrari with a racing history as long as my arm. Then I decided to go for it and I was delighted when the car became mine. I can tell you that it was and is every bit as exciting as you think it might be!! The car has been in Holland for 2 weeks now and we are trying to get it ready for its first outing which I had really planned to have this weekend at the Ferrari Owners Days at Spa, but a fuel leak and some problems with the electronic dashboard meant that I had to decide this afternoon not to take it and to postpone the shakedown. It was too great a risk of damaging this lovely car. I do not mind using it and fully plan to do so, but I do not want to lose it due to impatience or a bad preparation. Last week at Spa I had a chance to talk with the people at Playteam when they raced the GT Open there with the Ferrari 430's. It was very nice, they invited us for a lovely lunch in their hospitality tent and treated us extremely well. Also they introduced me to Ing. Christiano Michelotto who knew the history of my car by heart (and the 9 other 360 GTC's and many other Michelotto built cars for that matter!) I was delighted to hear from him that it had been en extremely good purchase because it is the 360 GTC with the best and longest racing history, has never been seriously damaged while racing and is still in very original condition. When I said that maybe one of the cars that ran the Le Mans or Spa 24 hours would be more interesting he replied that that was not true because they never won anything at Le Mans or Spa and that this one did win many races and 2 championships and that he preferred winning cars.......a point of view I cannot argue about! This summer I hope to be able to excercise the car during some (fast) demonstrations and then more people can listen to the truly incredible engine sound. If any of you have photos, race results or other information about my car, I would be delighted to hear from you. Very nice car, you should consider Spa Italia (28th of June) and perhaps maybe next years Viva Italia So this has to be the yellow Mik Corse as seen in the simulation GTR2. Great to see the history of a car I've driven so much in simulation.
Nice to know that, I never tried that simulator. Maybe I should now, in anticipation of driving it for real... Spa Italia is a good idea, I will certainly keep that in mind. Is that a real driving event or more show?? As for Viva Italia at Assen in Holland, I am afraid I will be blackflagged after starting it, the sound is really quite incredible! Assen has become incredibly noise restricted unfortunaltely, as has Zandvoort. Therefore my chances of driving/racing it in Holland are extremely limited. Only the Dutch Supercar Challenge race before the A1 GP is a possibility beacause it is one of the socalled "noise days"at Zandvoort of which they have only 5 per year. But although I would love to race it, the Dutch Supercar Challenge is pretty notorious for wheelbanging and completely unneccesary damage. With the Porsche I could handle that, with this Ferrari/Michelotto built carbonfibre body that is a bit too much for my liking.
Congrats!!!!!! I would love to some day add a 360gt to my collection, doubtful, but we can always dream!!! I hope you get her up and running soon!! Make sure those tires are warmed up before you really get on it! Enjoy! Thanks for sharing! Robert
Proper car with throttle cable.....racing wiring loom also......Hewland sequential gearbox.......spent a bit of time working on the Scuderia Ecosse 360 GTC's in the British GT championship......we ran silencers on those car as there were noise restrictions......they had to be repacked after every session!!
What can I say? Great story, great car! Thank you for going to the trouble of sharing all this with us. It is quite something. I hope I´ll be in the position to see and hear you using the car for the purpose it was originally built.
This years Viva Italia had a demonstration run with a 308 GTM, 355 Challenge, 512BB LM. If they do another demonstration like that next year, you could easily join up I think 30 minutes practically the track for yourself. Guess that's the only small part in the day where they can run unrestricted for a while, in the other sessions it's really a job of running close to idle at the straight (where they measure the dB's), like some Diablo's and a 360 CS had to do. Spa Italia had numerous racing cars in the past years doing a run, it's for the most part a show, but the Scuderia sessions (meant for the fast road and race cars) have helmets obligated and no speed restrictions. Would love to see (and hear!) your car in action the 28th (and the Spa Italia organisation no doubt as well )
Michaël, Came by a picture of the RM Auction this morning. Tell us: what's the latest on your car? Gr. Martin
(just saw this thread too) Fantastic, 3500touring! Any updates with the prep and your shakedown runs of the car?
